Laugh for the Day at My Expense

Post by SweetTeaGal » Fri Jun 10, 2016 8:42 am

My husband, one of my sons, and I were working in the flower beds by the front door yesterday after supper. When we pulled up an azalea, there happened to be a copperhead wrapped around the roots. I've been bitten by a snake before that sent me to the emergency room before, and this snake was right at the front porch, so it met with a quick end via a shovel (sorry copperhead lovers). Now the interesting part: I woke up probably 10 times last night "feeling" that snake on my neck and trying to knock it off of me. You guessed it: I spend the entire night thinking that every time my cpap hose touch my neck that I had a snake crawling on me! Have a great weekend everyone!

Glad to hear you are safe.

Maybe you could volunteer to take care of some 3 year olds. New "excitement" may displace your older "excitement" and then your dreams will change...

I've got 2 teenage boys. Believe me, at times I would gladly trade them for a handful of 3 year olds!

I had a nearly identical experience with a fishing pole handle - it was propped up with some rocks by a lake. This happened when I was a very little kid and I still think about that from time to time. Maybe that's why fishing never really clicked with me? Oddly enough, I don't hate snakes. When I owned an apple orchard here in Calif or when mt biking I'd see rattlesnakes from time to time but I've never really been afraid of them and always let them go their way (with some gentle encouragement).

I like my ResMed AirFit F10 FFM - reasonably low leaks for my ASV therapy. I'm currently using a PR S1 AutoSV 960P Advanced. I also keep a ResMed S9 Adapt as backup. I use a heated Hibernite hose. Still rockin' with Win 7 by using GWX to stop Win 10.

That would probably put me off ever gardening again! Hope the hose doesn't continue to bug you and your dreams.

Hubby has been bitten by brown recluse spiders--TWICE.
Suffice it to say, he is not a fan of spiders, (or snakes.)

I grew up on the island of Okinawa which is populated by an extremely dangerous venomous snake known as the Habu. So I have a huge fear of snakes. I have to tell you if there was a snake (even a harmless garden snake) anywhere on my property I'd move that day and NEVER come back.

Maybe I shouldn't tell you about the time last year when I reached down to uncoil the black garden hose (needed to water my flowers) and it wasn't the garden hose...it was a big fat 7ft long black rat snake trying to cool off in the shade and damp ground (faucet was leaking a bit). I nearly peed my pants. It was a good thing he decided to leave because my legs were totally rubber and I couldn't move I was shaking so bad.

I think I would have had a heart attack on the spot! Glad you're okay and can laugh about it now.

40, maybe 50 years ago, I saw an 5 foot rattler in my back yard. Ran inside the house, grabbed my .357 and back to the yard. Took a shot at that rattler. . .shot a hole through my brandy new shovel that was behind the snake. Finally got it with the second shot. Neighbor had child crawlin' round the back yard or I'd have just thrown it over the back fence into the drainage. Tanned that puppy, got my wifey a great great hat band with rattles. Brother in law got the second hat band. Didn't see it, but neighbors say next day was a 7 footer wrapped round bush in my front yard. Prolly mama looking for her youngin. Father-in-law tells stories of getten' off his horse and shooting rattler's till the sun went down when he happened cross a nest of them. Be safe.
Cheers

Rattler struck the horse my dad was riding, on the leg.
He snapped the loose end of his lariat and killed the snake with a single blow on its head with the turk's head.
He then drained the wound with his pocket knife, and got the vet out to give him a shot of antivenin.

Well that's it no gardening for me. I ran over a rather large long rattler this week with my bus. It was a long as a lane was wide. Felt like a speed bump & I don't think it died from being ran over since when I came back later it was no longer on the road. Had nightmares about it for 3 days.

My father in law hung outside the kitchen window with a shotgun to kill a rattler' that was in an oleander bush just outside the window. He wanted me to use a shovel to bend the bush aside so he could get a clear shot. Heck... he had drank a few beers.... momma didn't raise no fool! Anyway, he got that sucker!
