New Worrisome problem with my VPAP

Post by mcpascalns » Sat Nov 19, 2016 5:57 pm

It was not so good last night and I slept for the first time in 3 years without a mask. Here is an email I sent out to my sleep therapist today. Please, read it and let me what is my problem and option. Thanks. Pascal

Hi Mike,
I have owned that ResMed S9 VPAP Auto since 2013. The problem started last night Friday, November 18, 2016. Before placing the mask on my face for sleep, the machine appeared to be working and the air could be felt. However, after placing the mask on my face, very little air was being felt.

As a result, I was suffocating and struggling to breath. I placed the mask off and then back to see what would happen. It was the same story. I did the same thing for about three times with the same results. Very little air was coming from the machine. The machine seems to have stopped working while the mask is on my face.

Unable to breath, and concerned for my safety, I put off the mask from my face. So I spend the night not using the machine because it was not sending in high pressure air through the tube. I do not know why this has changed but it has never happened for the entire three entire years I have used this machine.

It’s my understanding if I am correct that ResMed S9 VPAP Auto Unit has been discontinued in favor of more upgraded version. I think, this could be even another justification if approvable for a newer model replacement. My doctor should be amenable with this this request. Please, strongly consider my request for a replacement with a newer model as well.

In meantime, my health is at risk every time,I spend the night without a machine. I am very concerned. Please, consider providing a loaner ASAP to stabilize my health. I have never slept without a machine for three years.
Thanks for the help and understanding.

Not knowing what's wrong with the machine, it's hard to suggest much and hopefully your DME will respond soon. If you have a recliner, you could try sleeping more upright (vs flat) as it generally helps quite a bit for many people. This is also a good example of why having a backup machine on hand is a very good idea of course. Have you checked everything in terms of e.g. having somehow accidentally lowered your pressure settings without realizing it (when setting some other feature perhaps)? If you need another machine and your insce. won't pay because it's not 'time' yet (usually 5 yrs), you could look at what Secondwindcpap.com has - they're very good (got my latest machine from them) and all machines are clean, great pricing and they also have some new ones I believe.

did you perhaps try looking at the display, where it shows operating information?

If you don't get the response you are hoping for, I'd print the email and send it certified mail, return receipt requested and then you can go from there. Hopefully, you'll get a prompt response and won't have to go that route. Difficult situation I know. Please keep us updated.

Backup machines are always a great idea--even a used model.
"Murphy" works hardest on the weekend; probably because most other folks do not.
