CPAP
CPAP
I am 70 years and retired and have car just for driving 5 KM a week for gricories but doctor insisting that that you must purchase CPAP and use every night atleast 4 hours.
I can not sleep with mask and sleep disturbed every half hour. I have no medical problem only during routine check it was observed that I have sleep apnea.
What to do as doctor is threatening that my driving licence will be suspended if I do not use/purchase CPA

Re: CPAP
How was this observed in a routine appointment? Did you fall asleep while waiting for the doctor? What were the results of your sleep study? Something sounds strange here. My suggestion would be to talk to the director of the clinic and get your 'diagnosis' clarified.

Re: CPAP
If a doctor feels a patient is a hazard on the road, they are obligated to address that. It sounds like you have been formally diagnosed since you have tried to use CPAP. I would suggest you get a copy of your test results and see if there are any clues in there that could change the doctor's insistence. Maybe you will find something like positional sleep apnea that you could address by taking steps to stay off your back. Or maybe you'll find results that are alarming and will convince you of the need for treatment. Like, how low does your oxygen drop, and how many times is your sleep disrupted each night, and are you getting the right stages of sleep for a healthy mind and body? If you do find you really need to make CPAP work, this is a great place to get the support to help you succeed. How long have you tried in the past? Good luck going forward.

Re: CPAP
Denial is a deadly disease.
Not only can it kill the afflicted, but it can also harm the innocent.
For only 5 km a week, you would be money ahead using a taxi.
Or use your cpap. Children do it--so can you!

he says he cant sleep with it
you would have to be a fool to lose all your sleep just to wear that thing for 4 hours to please some libtard doctor
he may need a bipap
or even an ASV
the doctor never did a PSG or a titration
just used his 'feelings' to try to steal freedom from another person illegally
just forcing him to use a cpap is both illegal and medical malpractice
Why is it, that the word "Libtard" is always used by those with limited mental faculties? I get it that someone hates liberals (bleeding heart, socially and environmentally concerned dimwits that we are) but why do you need to associate it with a word that was always used in a derogatory way to describe mentally handicapped people? Don't people using this word realize how much it makes them look like an ass when they use it? But then again, I suppose I answered my own question with my first question.

Re: CPAP
Hmmmm.
OP hasn't been back to clarify some inconsistencies in original statement.
OP mentions Km...so probably not USA. Some other part of the world that uses Km for distance and there are parts of the world where sleep apnea and cpap use are things that are reported by the doctor to the driver's license office even for regular drivers (non big truck).
We don't know that no sleep study was done. We don't know that no titration study was done.
There's a lot of details here that are missing and since OP hasn't been back to clarify some things some of you are making some pretty rock hard comments without knowing all the facts. Or maybe you have crystal balls and can see things no one else can see since you seem to think you know things that no one else knows.

Good point. I guess he's been getting under my skin with his comments lately. I need to learn to ignore him I think.lawr1000 wrote:You realize that picking on xxyzx is like picking on the slow kid in class. Correct him but try not to be a dick about it.

Re: CPAP
Komsunny, you did not say where you are located. Since you listed the distance you need to drive in kilometers instead of miles, I presume you are not in the US. I am not an expert on the laws where you are located, but evidently your doctor has the ability to notify the proper authorities if you fail to comply with your therapy. I was 72 when I started treatment, and my wife was 71 when she started. Age is not a reason to no do it. You have not given us enough information to be able to offer you any advice. If you are still around, please register and give us some more information so we can help you.

I gave up trying to ignore his comments and have added him to my foe list. I find that much easier than trying to ignore his inane comments. If I don't see them, I don't think about them. My only problem is , people keep quoting him and his comments show up in other people's comments.

Don't wear it. Die in your sleep like my Grandfather did, not like the other people in the car that were screaming!

1st sign of a troll in the thread: massive increase in full-quotes (only trolls seem to forget what the thread was about between hitting "reply" and "submit" and need a constant reminder)
2nd sign: replying to each and every comment in a different post (trolls really like their postcounter)

Re: CPAP
If you were to read back on xxxyx's posts you would see that he states ( many times ) that he is smarter than the rest of the forum, and none of us know what we are talking about. Many of the knowledgeable members here have been on cpap and on this forum helping folks for MANY years. There is a wealth of legitimate info here that will answer every question a patient has or will have, but xxxyx just keeps disputing whatever advice is offered by those that do know what they are talking about. It has been tried (over and over) to ignore his jibes and wrong information..... but you can only take so much from a "know it all" that gives out wrong information and is leading new patients to do the wrong things.lawr1000 wrote:You realize that picking on xxyzx is like picking on the slow kid in class. Re: CPAP
I hear you. It's like that pesky mosquito...you just want to slap it.nanwilson wrote:you can only take so much from a "know it all"
My suggestion for dealing with know it all trolls...simply correct the misinformation without drawing attention to it (try to avoid quoting if at all possible because that's what trolls like when you pay any sort of attention to them) and move on. Don't feed them and trying to argue with them is about as useful as arguing with a fence post.
They think they know it all and nothing anyone says is going to change their little pea brains.
They thrive on attention...good or bad. Try not to give them either if at all possible. Remember, you can't fix stupid no matter how much you want to try and an idiot who thinks he is a genius is still an idiot not matter how grandiose his ideas about himself might be.
It's really hard to ignore trolls though....sometimes you just want to slap the shit out of them and yell in their ear STFU.
Been there myself many a time.

Arguing with a troll is like wrestling with a pig in mud. You can't win and the pig likes it.
