Oracle mask
Oracle mask
Has anyone tried the Oracle 457 mouth breather mask? I've tried everything to keep my tongue in the roof of my mouth, with complete failure. I have every chin strap made and some I made, every full face mask and lots of nasal mask and tape. Also a pile of C collars. I haven't slept in so long, I can't function. My heart is damaged from apnea. I need a mask that works.

Re: Oracle mask
Oracle wasn't tolerable. There aren't any ENT specialists within 200 miles of where I live so I've had to rely on a small town dentist and my general practice Dr. We had a sleep Dr. That diagnosed me and got me on cpap, but he left. I'm trying everything I find to make me sleep. I defeat every chin strap, tape, collar and FFM . I just can't keep my mouth shut. Thanks for answering.
Re: Oracle mask
With a FF mask you don't have to keep your mouth shut

Re: Oracle mask
I've been using the Oracle 452 for maybe 2 years now with nostrils taped and it's working well with negligible leakage. I guess it's been more tolerable for me. I recently had a nasty head cold and a cough developed form it so I broke out the old Quattro Pro FF mask, which was fine until the next day when I developed a rash where the cushion was sitting on my cheeks. Enter the last chance - a Total Face Mask I have on hand as another backup, it works pretty well for limited stints but I have more leakage with it and sometimes forget to add EPR when using it which is kind of required to use this type. This might be something for you to try if you haven't already:Bluper wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 2:47 pmOracle wasn't tolerable. Re: Oracle mask
What's the problem with FFMs? Does your jaw drop and break the mask seal? You can tape your lips underneath an FFM - just a small strip of tape to keep the jaw from dropping. The mouth doesn't have to be sealed. The mouth can leak, and the FFM will maintain the pressure.

I use a f20 when all else fails. I sleep on my face, ( believe it or not). The hard plastic on all full face mask really hurt and keep me awake. I've tried to change my sleep position but 68 years is a lot to change. I use tape, always. I can't keep my tongue on the roof of my mouth when I sleep so constantly being awakened by chipmunk cheeks. I'm a hopeless old mess. Thank you all for answering. I truly appreciate it.
Re: Oracle mask
have you ever tried sleeping sitting up? I had to for a while when I had sciatica, could not lie flat without serious pain. I thought it would be a problem but was actually OK. I never got totally accustomed to it but didn't really try to since the sciatica cleared up with some PT.Bluper wrote: ↑Tue Apr 25, 2023 11:05 amI use a f20 when all else fails. I've never been able to sleep upright. I envy people that can. I've seen my husband sleep while leaning on a wall standing up. We worked graveyard shifts when we were young. He would pass out in any position. I would have to have a bed.

Why don't they make a bed with a face hole like massage tables have?

Re: Oracle mask
I sleep alone ('cept for my cat) and so can get away with this - I cut a 3" wide, 4" deep and 1' long 'trench' in my memory foam mattress starting at the head and going towards the foot, with an electric knife, and rounded top edges with scissors. I have a FF mask and when sleeping on my front with my head turned right, the mask dips into the trench diagonally or more vertically, avoiding a very sore neck in the a.m. I've also cut and fiddled with sheets to accommodate things, but have been sleeping like this for years, and so far so good. Important to mention is that my particular mask's vent holes are higher on the mask than most (which are usually at the elbow), so foam or sheet don't block holes but probably would for other masks.

Wow, Julie. My husband will kill me if I cut up out Tempur-pedic bed. I do have a $150 pillow that I have been creative with.
Re: Oracle mask
Hi, I seem to not be able to keep my mouth shut when. I sleep and I have a trimmed beard. I've been using the Evora full face mask for a year now , it's fantastic. If you do try it get the fit pack which gives you all three mask sizes. It covers your mouth and sits on the bottom of your nose. Some CPAP places have a 30 day trial on it.
