Fibers showing up in my humidifier water bowl.

Post by Radkinssr@gmail.com » Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:43 am

I just got a new red med air sense 11 after using an air sense 10 for 5 years and from the first night of use i started getting a lot of white fibers showing up in my water bowl
Each morning. They look like fibers from the intake filter. I have taken the machine back to my medical supplier where I got it and the day it is not a problem. I got the new coal because the old air sense 10 was starting to blow pieces of the internal gaskets from it into the water bowl. I don't like breathing stuff into my lungs which are already not good from 44 years in a stell mill.

Is just got a day ago?, A week ago? A month ago?

Are you using an Ozone based sanitizer (soClean).

Do you have an ultrasonic humidifier? They can release white particles/flakes into environment.

How are you cleaning your tub?

I picked up the new Res Med air sense 11 on Feb. 22nd and the fibers from the filter started showing the first night. The coal techs at my medical supply told me I could not use my So Clean with the air sense 11 or it would void my warrenty. So I bought a new Liviliti CPAP sanitizing machine. I complained to the Techs and they gave me some different kind of filters with a smooth med on the machine side of the filter. It helped quite a lot on the amount of fibers getting into the water but not all of them. I still have to dump the little amount of water left in the bowl each morning to get them all out. I don't like breathing any of them though. The filters on my old Res Med 10 were covered in both sides with smooth mesh and were twice as big in size.

Are you cleaning the water tub daily and wiping it dry with a paper or cotton towel?

This is precisely why I asked him, "How are you cleaning your tub?"

I remember reading on another forum a poster describing a similar problem. Turns out he was wiping his tank out with wipes every morning.

I bought the Res Med Air Sense 11 because my 5 year old air sense 10 was worn out. As I said in my original post the Techs at Binsons Med. Supply told me I could not use the So Clean on this model as it would void the warranty. So I bought the UFC LIGHT cleaner to do the hose, tank and mask w/headgear. I'm going to try to buy some better quality filters than the ones they have me to use and see if that helps. I am cleaning the bowl every morning and wiping it dry.

may i suggest you try not cleaning your humidifier tub every day? it's not really necessary. use normal filters and it should be fine.

good luck!

Your 5 year old machine did not wear out, it was ruined by ozone. The bits you were seeing in your humidifier tank were likely pieces of foam, not gaskets. This is consistent with other CPAP users who use Ozone and in particular SoClean.

Ozone incompatibility with many materials (including material is CPAP machines and supplies) is well understood and documented.

I have tried rinsing it out and letting it air dry upside down on the counter, I tried blow drying it with a hair dryer on low heat and using the UFC cleaner on drying mode and I still have the fibers in the bowl every morning.

FACT: Fibers do not evaporate with water, and cannot travel up the hose.
I rarely clean my tank, and never clean the hose.
---Even when I was on CHEMO!
I did avoid runny eggs and tap water for 4 months, though.
Fear is more deadly than most of the things we fear.

OP: Could you try running the cpap without any filter at all for a few nights to see if it's the filter itself that is providing the fibers to your humidifier tank?

Some mold grows In FILAMENTS, which can resemble fibers.
Mold grows from spores, which are just waiting for access to the tank
when you open it to "clean" it.
