Just got banned again (and yet again, see below)

I'm currently banned again as I post this. Luckily I know what to do about an "IP address ban". Greeted by this lovely message when I went to read postings:

You have been permanently banned from this board.

Please contact the Board Administrator for more information.

Reason given for ban: spam

A ban has been issued on your IP address.

Haven't posted any forum content since March of this year. Kind of annoying.

For most ISPs IP addresses are not assigned per user. They are in a shared pool. Blocking by IP address therefore possibly blocks many innocent users. In my opinion, banning the individual user & possibly banning the ip address from registering new user accounts for a period of time makes better sense.

It's some kind of weird glitch. I was visiting San Diego and I got that message at one location I was staying at. Didn't matter if I used my phone cellular service or the hotel wi fi. A few hours later I was able to log in just fine. It was the weirdest thing.

When we lived in NYC and I had a business trip to LA, I would fly to LAX on Friday night and drive to San Diego. Saturday and Sunday in SD were great. I would drive back to LA on Sunday night. Too old to do that now.

Too much driving for me in one trip. My friends and I already made the 5 hour drive from Phoenix to San Diego. I was actually born in LA. Have no desire to go back to that area now. San Diego has gone down hill enough. Not at all what it used to be. 🥲

Not likely.
I suspect that scammers are using random addresses for their dirty work,
and "somebody" is finally cracking down on them.
About freakin' time!
This problem is likely to be around for a long time--off and on.
Damn them.

Hold on to Hanlon's razor, one version of which is "never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by neglect, ignorance, or incompetence."

A corollary states: "Most of the damage done in this world is done by people who are actually trying their best to be helpful."

Thought I'd throw those out there to make the situation worse.

Just wait until AI takes over such matters fully; surely that will make everything better!
