OptiLife Cradle Cushions

Post by Hawthorne » Fri May 09, 2008 2:35 pm

Someone on this forum mentioned these Cradle Cushions for the OptiLife as an alternative to the nasal pillows. It makes them like the Comfort Curve ( which I have used successfully for a couple of years) and the ComfortLites - 1 and 2. I don't know if they will come with the OptiLife in future. They should, I think.
Anyway, I ordered 2 from cpap.com (at $29.99 a pop) and they came today. I took a nap with them and I think they are going to be a great alternative. I like them anyway!
Thought OptiLife users might like to know.

Hi There--I used the OPTI LIFE--just got it a few weeks ago. Was curious where this "cradle cushion" goes ---it is around the nasal pillows or under your chin? i am confused as to where it fits on this mask? thanks for letting me know--
Carrie

OptiLife Cradle Cushions

You remove the nasal pillows and it fits there. Instead of nasal pillows, one in each nostril you have a small cushion (with a hole in it where your nose sits) to cover the whole nose. It means, if the nasal pillows irritate your nostrils, this will not. You can see them as replacement parts for the OptiLife at cpap.com.

OH OK--got it!! So the cradle is used INSTEAD of the nasal prong things--cool idea!!! I might give them a try--do you like it better that way then?

My order was delivered earlier today. I'll be trying them out here in about 30 minutes. The trial fit seemed more comfortable but I'm concerned about leaks as it's almost too comfortable. lol well we'll see

cheers!

Optilife Cradle Cushions

Post by Hawthorne » Sat May 10, 2008 4:44 am

I used the cradle cushion on my OptiLife last night. It was very comfortable. There is a little mark on my nose since the cushion is new. I had the same mark with a new Comfort Curve cushion.
The leaks were fine- no problem. My AHI was 0.7. It's been under 1 for about 10 days now so it looks like I can use my OptiLife with the Cradle Cushions!

Not a bad night with this "upgrade". Actually slept pretty well with only an occasinal leak. I haven't checked my stats in Encore Pro yet.

As the name implies, it is a comfortable design and I think with a few adjustments I'll be a happy CPAPper. I am using the large size and might try a medium to see but at $29 I might just live with the large design.

I got the medium since I used the medium nasal pillows too. It 's okay but the small might be better. Can't say for sure at this point. Time will tell!

I got a new optilife from the VA a couple of months ago. It had no cushions. Do they come as standard equipment now or do you have to order? By the way, my new optilife has a newer softer tube and it is wider than my old mask. Is that true with yours?

OptiLife Cradle Cushions

Post by Hawthorne » Sun May 11, 2008 12:23 pm

I bought my OptiLife in January of this year. I don't know if it is wider or has a softer tube, since it was my first OptiLife. I didn't know there had been changes or when these changes were made.
I would like to know when the changes were made! Anyone know the answer to that?
The Cradle Cushions are very new and are sold separately right now. I would hope that, sometime in the near future, both the pillows and the Cradle Cushions would come with the Optilife. That would proabably mean a price increase. The may sell them with a choice of the nasal pillows or cradle cushions, both in all sizes.
The Comfort Lites, both the original and the Comfort Lite 2 came with both 3 sizes of small nose masks and 3 sizes of nasal pillows, if I remember correctly.
Not sure what will happen with the OptiLife.

What size nasal pillow were you using. The reason being that I am thinking about ordering a medium since I use a medium nasal pillow, do they correlate size wise.

Dan
Hi Dan
On CPAP.com there is a sizing for chart of sorts that pretty much correlates to...

If you currently use a large nasal pillow then you'll need the large cushion, medium - medium but I think the're a bit off sized. Might want to go with a size smaller but I'm guessing on this. When I come up with a spare $$ I'll buy the medium to confirm this. So, anyone want to buy a slightly used Large cushion soon?

OptiLife Cradle Cushions

Post by Hawthorne » Mon May 12, 2008 3:38 pm

CompuTech007 - With a little more experience with the Cradle Cushions, I agree with you. I think they are sized too large. I wear the medium nasal pillows in the OptiLife, and I wear the medium cushion on my Comfort Curve. I assumed, from my experience and their size chart, that medium would be right. They worked well the first 2 times I wore them but now I can't get as good a seal as I got in the beginning. There seems to be no way to stop the leaks enough. Like you, I will order one size down (the small in my case) next time.
They are a slightly different shape than the cushions on the Comfort Curve and the hole is elongated ( compared to the Comfort Curve). This may be what puts the sizing off. I can wear small or medium in the Comfort Curve equally well.

What a disappointment! I was really excited when I heard the Optilife was coming out with a new cradle cushion because I could never tolerate their nasal pillows. I always liked everything about this mask except the pressure it put on my nostrils. I liked the idea of the new cushion.

I ordered the medium cushion because that's the size I used on the nasal pillows. Soooo many leaks I couldn't use it. I tried and tried to get it to settle down, but I couldn't do it.

Very bad design and I am not willing to put out more money to get the smaller size. I will go back to my Swift II.

hence why you should have tried a new product at your local DME.
