I finally got a new mask, got rid of the

nasal pillows and got the Respironics comfort gel nose mask.
The first couple times I used it, it wasn't that bad, but after about a week of wearing a few hous a night, the mask is hurting. Pinching me in places on my face and slipping down to the top of my mouth.

Some nights, and it may even be just me, I can't keep my mouth shut ?? The air goes in and my mouth opens and it bursts out. Is this because I am self conscious and awake that this is happening ?

I am really trying with this mask, way more than I EVER did with the nasal pillows. I just gave up after a week of those and that was 7 months ago. I just started getting back into this. I have lost 40 pounds, is it possible I don't even need this anymore ? My sat was only at 85% originally...

Where should I go with this ?
I DO NOT WANT to go in for another sleep study right now, I was way to traumatized and need a break from constant diagnosing.
I am having some issues dealing with chronic leg pain and meds not working, so one problem at a time.
Oh and BTW, I thought I would be feeling more rested by now. I don't feel any different and I may be sounding negative, but I don't see any help for the future since I am always on pain meds that are probably making me "extra" tired.

Is there any hope for me ???
Do people ever feel rested that are on medications that make them exhausted, doesn't that just combat the affect of the machine ?

I just wanted to comment on your mask, you have to find one that works for you. I HATE the ComfortGel. I have the FF version and wore it one night, it actually caused a bump on my nose and a blister on my chin. OUCH! If you can't find a maskt that works you won't be able to be compliant so this is key. Have you tried a full face mask?

Also, my sleep doctor has you get re-titrated with a 10% weight loss, so I am assuming 40lbs is at least 10% for you, probably more. You should try for another study. I hear you on one thing at a time, I have rheumatoid arthritis and glaucoma, so I get it, but you really should have another study.

Best wishes and please keep posting and get yourself used to CPAP if you need it after the weight loss.

thank you....I used to be a user a long while ago, but since then, when I log in, it's coming up as "guest". Where do I go to re-do my profile ?

Yeah, I guess thats about 15 % weight loss.... we'll see. I'll try this mask a while more and maybe I can work with it a bit...

Thanks

Hi, Guest.

Since it's been a long while since you stopped by, I imagine things look really strange to you. The entire format was upgraded in mid-August. It takes a little getting used to, but it works very well. Here's some relevant info from the FAQs that might help:
Why can’t I login?
There are several reasons why this could occur. First, ensure your username and password are correct. If they are, contact the board owner to make sure you haven’t been banned. It is also possible the website owner has a configuration error on their end, and they would need to fix it.
I’ve lost my password!
Don’t panic! While your password cannot be retrieved, it can easily be reset. Visit the login page and click I’ve forgotten my password. Follow the instructions and you should be able to log in again shortly.
I registered but cannot login!
First, check your username and password. If they are correct, then one of two things may have happened. If COPPA support is enabled and you specified being under 13 years old during registration, you will have to follow the instructions you received. Some boards will also require new registrations to be activated, either by yourself or by an administrator before you can logon; this information was present during registration. If you were sent an e-mail, follow the instructions. If you did not receive an e-mail, you may have provided an incorrect e-mail address or the e-mail may have been picked up by a spam filer. If you are sure the e-mail address you provided is correct, try contacting an administrator.
What is COPPA?
COPPA, or the Child Online Privacy and Protection Act of 1998, is a law in the United States requiring websites which can potentially collect information from minors under the age of 13 to have written parental consent or some other method of legal guardian acknowledgment, allowing the collection of personally identifiable information from a minor under the age of 13. If you are unsure if this applies to you as someone trying to register or to the website you are trying to register on, contact legal counsel for assistance. Please note that the phpBB Group cannot provide legal advice and is not a point of contact for legal concerns of any kind, except as outlined below.
I registered in the past but cannot login any more?!
Attempt to locate the e-mail sent to you when you first registered, check your username and password and try again. It is possible an administrator has deactivated or deleted your account for some reason. Also, many boards periodically remove users who have not posted for a long time to reduce the size of the database. If this has happened, try registering again and being more involved in discussions.
This is a similar question to yours, along with a suggested solution:
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=34869&p=298726&hilit=format#p298726

Also, logged-in members (I so prefer "members" to "users" -- carries an entirely different connotation! ) can access the list of Usernames (obviously, not passwords ). If you think it's a matter of perhaps not remembering exactly what you used or what, if anything, was capitalized, I'd gladly check the list for you to see what's there. If you'd like me to do that, just give me your best guess as to your Username.

Good luck!
Marsha

Guest, have you tried a nasal prongs mask? Those go UP your nose, they don't sit OUTSIDE your nose. It's counter-intuitive, but many forum members report that they are more comfortable than pillows masks.

My personal preference is for the Nasal Aire II, but I've also heard good thing about the Nasal Aire I, and the Snapp.

If you might want to try it, check out my NAII Tip Sheet in my signature line. If you think you'd like to test drive it before you buy it, you can PM me your information and I'll put you on my test drive list.

Cheers,
Babette

I currently have a stash of Nasal Aire II cannulas in Small or Extra Small. Please PM me if you would like them. I'm interested in bartering for something strange and wonderful that I don't currently own. Or a Large size NAII cannula. :)

I bought a new nasal-aire II set just this week. I need it for the hybrid off days. If you have never tried it, go for it. It's the best pillow type product you can use. I paid 99.00 for all 6 sizes. It's a dream mask.
