How to "Spring Forward" with ResMed S8 Elite II?

Post by JimW203 » Sun Mar 08, 2009 4:54 pm

Can someone with more experience/knowledge/smarts than I help me set my clock?

This morning I attempted to change the time on my ResMed S8 Elite II by going into the clinical menu to the date/time section. Making the change was very straightforward; the problem emerged when the process was finished. Following that process I was presented with two options: 1) Erase Data or 2) Cancel. Choosing not to try 1), I chose 2) - at which point the changes were gone. Going back through the process several times, I could find no means of telling the machine to accept the changes. The manual says nothing about the process, merely identifying the function of the step. If 1) is the correct choice, the logic eludes me (that wouldn't be the first time, though).

Your help will be gratefully accepted.

Jim,

I am not an expert on these things; but, if I am not mistaken, your cpap is set to Greenwich Mean Time anyway.

I don't think so. At least, when I attempted to make the change it was reading the local time as it would have been without the great leap forward.

I just did it this morning and did option 1) Erase Data. It's really no biggie, but you do lose your recorded efficiency data such as hours/days/weeks/months usage. If you don't feel like changing your clock I don't think it matters too much, it just means that instead of the machine erasing daily data at 12pm, it will be 1pm.

If you have and are using the software I'm pretty sure that the next time you insert your data card after a download the data card will have picked up the time change from your 'puter and automatically make the time change in your Elite II - but I "could" be wrong. Yeah! I'm not infallable (sp?)

S8 II---Go to Clinical Menu/Options/Time (easy to push the wrong button at the wrong time to throw a curve at you!)

There is a Day/Month/Year option as well.Mine did the hour automatically from the software,PC clock is set to automatically synchronize with a Internet time server.

I am now using the Resmed VPAP Auto (came out in January 2008) which I guess we "might" want to call a Resmed S8 I and a 1/2 or S8 1.5 (the Resmed VPAP Auto 25 came out in July 2008 and I guess has replaced my VPAP Auto). I was just able to change the time via the Clinicians Menu. Did you use the Apply (left button) after re-setting the hour and then Okay? And the Okay again for the minutes before Exiting or Upping to the previous screen?

My S8 Elite II does not show that option. The only two options available following changing the time are:
1) Erase Data (left arrow)
2) Cancel (right arrow)

Selecting 2) cancels any changes and I don't want to erase what data there is in the machine.

Yes it won't do that.

What was the local time when you did this? If you make it roll over or roll back it might only give you the option to erase.

If yours behaved the same as mine, I suspect the time changed. There was no "accept". Once the time was set arrow up takes you to previous option- erase data. They are not the same menu item. Just changed nubby's and mine this morning

You are right. The transition is not exactly intuitive, but it seems to work. The manual was absolutely no help, but you were.

Thanks,

Just wanted to add my thanks to the participants for the info. For some reason my Resmed 8 time was off by 45 minutes. Maybe the recent snow storm eletrical outages had something to do with it. Anyhow, I tried to change the time but each effort was met with option of either erase all data or return to wrong time. After reading notes here and on another thread on cpaptalk I was prepared to try again and it worked. I'm not altogether sure why. This time I waited till the hour was correct and only needed to change the minutes. But the other thing was that following the advice here I used the up arrow to leave the change time section without hitting either 'ok' or 'cancel' and maybe that was the key. My main point was 'thank you' for sharing the information -- I studied the manual and several other places on the web as usual CPAPTalk.com had the best information which was based on the contributions of its user base.
