Can't get out of bed
I have an overnight sleep study next week, it has been arranged to try and find out why I still feel so crap in the morning. I get loads of sleep and feel so much more alert in general, it's just that it can take me up to two hours to actually get out of bed. I just lay there in a half doze. Its been about six months since I started cpap and this aspect has got progressively worse??
Anyone else had this problem or have any suggestions as to what to ask at the sleep study?

Re: Can't get out of bed
I would tell the sleep tech that I awaken feeling horrible every morning, unable to get out of bed. And is there something related to my sleep that we can easily correct and address. Explain the situation and ask if it is possible you still have problems with apneas or some other issue (such as periodic limb movements and the like).

Re: Can't get out of bed
I don't think deadhead77 is contradicting his own advice--he acknowledges feeling much more alert on CPAP. Just looking for more and has the opportunity to seek it.
My mornings are not as delayed-action as yours, deadhead, but I don't spring out of bed. It takes me, say, a half hour to get going. (In my relative "youth" I'd be out of bed and on the road to work in 20 minutes. Now it's pretty much an hour or more before I'm out the door.) It's stable, not getting worse.
I plan to discuss with my PCP at a follow up visit in a few weeks. I'm interested in your follow-up--please post what happens. As for questions to ask, I think JohnB has nailed it. Good luck!

I do hope they can pinpint your problems. It has to be frustrating to be using the machine for 6 months, have a good attitude about it, and still have struggles. Too bad you haven't had the benefit of data, as you may have been able to optimize your treatment sooner. But now you have the chance to get a full picture of your sleep at this point, and move forward toward making your sleep restful and restorative. Maybe it will be as simple as a slight pressure change.
It would be a good idea to have copies of all your reports for your own records, and lay them out side by side to see what changes are there and if any questions are triggered.
While it's good to have seen improvements, it does sound like you're not yet at your best treatment. I'd be interested in hearing what they find.

Re: Can't get out of bed
Thanks guys I will post my results. Last night I went strait to sleep (about 2.15 am) I don't remember waking up at all and I eventually got up at about 11 am. It's like coming out of a general anesthetic!
I do like wearing the mask, I am leak free now (I think) and as soon as I put it on I enter the sleep world. This is where a faint white noise blots out other sounds, my airways are open and I can breath freely through my nose.
I close my eyes and enter a dark comfortable atmosphere...
Blisssss...zzzzZZZZZZZ.
YES I do love it, no snoring, no sore throat, no leather dry tongue, no menthol stink in the bedroom, the list goes on.
Weird, before cpap not enough sleep now I can't seem to stop

Re: Can't get out of bed
If it was a day or two after starting, I would say it was severe sleep deprivation. But six months after starting CPAP therapy? Yikes! Perhaps it just brought out the fact that you are Rip Van Winkle in disguise!deadhead77 wrote:... Weird, before cpap not enough sleep now I can't seem to stop ...
Seriously, I hope you are able to get an answer soon.

Re: Can't get out of bed
It took me a long time to pay off my sleep debt, probably close to a year or so.
I have noticed that I am not as "in gear" as I used to be in the morning, but contribute it to age and health factors.
Good luck finding the source of your problem.

Re: Can't get out of bed
To throw one more thing out there, now that you reference going to bed at 2am. I don't know what your work schedule is or your normal waking hours, but you might need to find your optimal sleep zone, as it were. For me there is a big difference between going to bed at 10 vs. 11, and if I go to bed at midnight I will not be alert when I first wake up whether I stay asleep 8 hours or 10. I'm not saying you can't be a night owl, but if your bedtime fluctuates there might be something there to pursue. Myself, I'm definitely ex-night owl material.
In any case, you're about to get professional assistance. We'll be watching!

Re: Can't get out of bed
I have received some benefit from CPAP therapy and I think overall it is good for my whole body, but I have found out that my sleepiness problem is caused more from my thyroid than from sleep apnea. CPAP is doing what it can but sometimes there are other problems under the hood that you need to check. Sleep apnea is not the only one giving those symptoms. You should also talk with a general doctor, specialist doctor tend to be very focus in that area an some time they miss other problem when there is not their area.deadhead77 wrote:I have an overnight sleep study next week, it has been arranged to try and find out why I still feel so crap in the morning.
