2 hours with swift fx

Post by m1aman » Thu Jan 06, 2011 8:34 pm

I took it off and my old mirage activa never felt so good when I put it on. Just looking at it thought I had found the nasal cushions of my dreams. Actually using it was a very different. I had to sleep flat on my back to keep it from leaking. Then because I wasn't used to having anything inside my nose it started to almost wear a sore spot. I will give it one or two more tries before I give up on it.

If it was so leaky and hurting your nose, my guess is that it wasn't fit correctly. Hopefully you didn't have the pillows crammed up your nose.

I wold also recommend using lanolin on your nose. You can find it under the name of Lanisoh in the baby section or nursing mothers section. CVS drugstore also sells a generic version that is $2 cheaper than the brand name.

You may have the wrong size pillows or have the mask to tight. The tip of the pillow cones is the only part that should be in your nose, not the whole cone, headgear should be fairly loose. If your nose is sore inside after 2 hours something is wrong. Check to see that the inner cone is not folded down or inverted. Try holding pillows up to your nose, turn the machine on, allow them to inflate then slip the back strap over yor head and adjust until it barely stops leaking, adjust silicon strap to hold in place. If your headgear slips, sew or glue the hook part of Velcro to the underside of the strap Lanisoh cream also helps with nose soreness, and is mask safe, find it in the drugstore baby aisle . Hope this helps, I am an active sleeper and like my FX a lot.
Any landing you walk away from is a good one; if you don't break your airplane it's excellent.

Thank you for your responses! I will follow the tips and see what improvements I can make. I may well have had it too tight thinking that was required to keep a seal.

As with any mask, your mileage may vary (YMMV).

However, I use the Swift FX every night. Looser is better. Mayondair is right about that. Loosen both straps. Tighten the back one first until the leaks JUST stop, and then tighten the top band. The top band shouldn't be too tight, or it will pull upward causing leaks. I keep mine fairly loose; just tight enough so it won't slip.
Sleep well and live better!

That is TRUTH!

Looser is better. I made the mistake of going too tight with my Swift FX the first few nights and paid the price with VERY sore nostrils. Then I read somewhere on here that I was probably wearing the headgear too tight. Loosened up and have been happy ever since.

On a side note, I tried 1 whole night with the backup mask listed in my profile and HOLY MOLY!!! TERRIBLE!!!! A full face mask and I do NOT get along. Numbers went through the roof and my mouth was dry as hell when I woke up.
