Does my friend have sleep apnea

Post by Bennnyp » Tue Mar 25, 2014 1:24 pm

Hi, a friend of mine is wondering if she has sleep apnea. She typically sleeps 7 to 9 hours a night. When she wakes up in the morning
she still feels tired. When she has a day off, she really has to make her self get off the couch to get anything done. She does take
medicine for cholesterol. Has been dealing with hot flashes for 20 years. She is 53 years young.

The best way to tell is have her take a sleep study.... I have found that an oximeter is a good way to tell if your oxygen levels are depleted during the night.... without treatment I would average a freaky 68% oxygen level and wake up with killer headaches. Now just under a month of usage I regularly average 97% and haven't woken up with a headache in same amount of time (knock on wood)

There are 1,000 reasons someone could be tired and only her doctor can investigate properly.

The biggest sign outside of a sleep study is that the person stops breathing while they are sleeping for 10 or more seconds and then suddenly begins again with big gasps. That is usually something you find out from a bed partner, though sometimes friends will tell you if you nod off in their chair!

When I was finally diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (2003) the doctors missed the symptoms 999 out of 1000 tries. They are doing better now and only miss 8 out of 10 tries.

Prepare yourself before you talk with your doctor always!!!!
