What questions should I ask at sleep study follow up?

Post by USMCVet » Mon Nov 27, 2017 9:09 am

In 4 hours I have appointment to go over sleep study. Are there any specific questions I should ask ? Will they give you copy of report at follow up?
Thanks

Hopefully it's not too late to answer your question. Yes, they will likely give you a copy of the report. If they don't mention it, ask for it. And it should be a few pages that breaks down the details of things like sleep position, sleep stages, etc. One place offered me only the summary letter they sent to my doc and had to ask for more. Unfortunately, most of the questions you won't know you have until a problem arises. With the report in hand, many of those answers you will have at your fingertips. Not sure if you are going through insurances or self pay, but either way, ask for a copy of your prescription. They will likely to tell you they are sending it to an equipment provider, and that's fine, but also get a copy in case you decide to pick up extra masks online or if you travel a lot and want to be prepared if you need something while out of town. Most of these appointments aren't in depth, especially if one has strictly obstructive sleep apnea with no evidence of central. Good luck with things. If you have questions after you've studied your report, check back with us.

Thank you and not too late! Completely forgot about asking for prescription. I'll be going through the VA so I'll call them tomorrow to make sure they got the report from sleep place to get the ball rolling.

Do insure VA gets the report. I had to have mine faxed over 3 times before they got it. Before receiving my CPAP I was required to go to the VA sleep center and take a class. Stay on top of the Sleep center to get that scheduled. Im not sure where your located but the Atlanta VA sleep center has a long backlog but persistence is the key to getting in. Im more than happy to answer any questions i can about the VA process if you have them.

I'm part of the Buffalo NY VAMC. How long did it take from time you got prescription to receiving your machine? Another member on here through a different VAMC said it took about 7 weeks. Just wondering if that's average.

Only took me about 3 weeks. Like I said you have to be persistent. after the first week i started calling every other day asking if they had any cancellations in the next class. At the time mine did classes twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Make sure you get a copy of your lab study and more importantly get the original signed hard copy of your prescription as it should be good for life or 99 years, whichever comes first. They may insist on sending it to a DME but you must insist more strongly that they send a xerox copy to the DME and that you wish to hold the original.
President-pretender, J. Biden, said "the DNC has built the largest voter fraud organization in US history". Too bad they didn’t build the smartest voter fraud organization and got caught.

Thank you for clarification on that.
