Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
You've mentioned a couple of machines...ResMed Escape and ResMed AutoSet ....and now you have the chinese knockoff RESmart in your profile...

Didn't see the option in the dropdown for the mentioned above machines. Why would the website give the option for a chinese knockoff and not some of the most popular brands in the industry? Maybe there is an option, but either way guys, i stick with regular CPAP so Resmed Escape is what I have been on consistently. Why do you ask
Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
You need to look at the drop down menu options closer...look at my equipment choices....the other name brands are indeed an option.sean4123 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 10, 2018 1:59 amDidn't see the option in the dropdown for the mentioned above machines. If you can't find your model or the link is broken...manually type it into the comments section of the equipment profile.
We ask because you seem to want help but if we don't know what you are using we can't offer much in terms of help.
And the ResMed Escape...offers no data at all that might even remotely help you.

Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
That was a machine that I was renting. Originally I used the settings of 4 to 10 on pressure, but I couldn't breathe with it at a 4, and had to bump it to a 7 to 10. After that, I would wake up and the pressure would be around 8 to 9 pretty consistently.ChicagoGranny wrote: ↑Tue Apr 10, 2018 8:40 amWhat about the settings when you are using the AutoSet? Are you using a range of pressures? Min/max?
Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
Don't know if theres anyone can help with, but I wanna update you guys.
So i've seen an ENT now, and he is prescribing me a Zantac like medicine for "run of the mill" acid reflux. The doc literally looked at my throat with a mini scope for about 30 seconds flat and said yep acid reflux. He didn't attempt to try and find a root cause and whenever I bring up CPAP or potential allergies that could cause throat/esophagus issues, he didn't care.
So i'm going to try this med, but i've been taking Prilosec and it hasn't done much of anything. I do, however, feel a fullness in my esophagus after waking up each morning with the CPAP. I'm not able to burp it out though, and only feel some relief after I burp up my food. I also am having a harder time breathing especially after eating and attempting cardio.
Basically I am finding zero answers and every doc I see just seems to diagnose with the most common cause and want to move on. I have another sleep study, but can't help but feel there is some root problem that is causing breathing issues and possibly exhaling problems with CPAP that is causing air trapping and/or bruising of the esophagus that is causing these burping episodes.
I'm sure I sound whiny at this point, but i'm open to suggestions as to what I should do next. So far, I just have another sleep study scheduled for next month.

Prilosec doesn't have a good rep in any respect for reflux and does have side FX you may not want long term - Google those.
The most likely reason for your problem is a loosening (age-wise) of the sphincter going to the esophagus from your stomach (called LES) which is quite common. I personally would look at whether you can e.g. lower your min. pressure by a cm or so and see if it helps anything, but most lift the head of their beds on bricks, etc. by about 5", which does seem to help. I just take a small (or even half) a Tums before bed and that's all I need. Also, lay off any caffeine and pop for six hrs or more before bed.

Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
Hi, I went through a similar situation. The drs thought it was "Classic Gerd" One doctor said that I need to take prilosec 20mg twice a day for 6 weeks. That did not help me at all, my problem was swallowing at night without water. Once I got referred to a GI doc they told me to take prilosec for 3 months before you will see any change. If the ENT could see the Gerd....that is bad, that means the acid has gone way up and caused damage over the years. I got an endoscopy and they discovered that I did not have gerd at all. They said I got a fungus in my esophagus (candida) from all the steroid nasal spray I have been using and the two rounds of antibiodics they put me on in the beginning when they thought it was strep put everything outta of wack. You need to keep an eye on that because it can lead to all sorts of bad stuff if you dont treat it. Your esophagus needs to heal, it takes forever to do on its own. Maybe the constant air is drying it out and irritating it. Have you tried Gavascon? you can try coating the inside of the esophagus after meals to reduce the acid. The thing that happened to me was rare with the Candida, it took 4 doctors and 5 months to figure out. They got me on some pretty strong meds to fight it, hopefully in another week and a half it will be gone.
Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
Gaviscon has its own problems too... it may not be necessary to use such meds if you try being more careful about diet and common sense.
Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
Agree that Gavascon might help to reduce acid. I'm thinking your doctor suggested it. Hopefully, when you are off the "strong meds", you'll also be able to stop taking the Gavascon. I hope you're feeling better and that this strange fungus will soon be a thing of the past.cpap626 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 17, 2018 11:52 pmHi, I went through a similar situation. Maybe too far out of the box, but be sure to rule out gall bladder problems.

Gall bladder symptoms are not always predictable.sean4123 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 18, 2018 2:59 pmWhy do you say that?chunkyfrog wrote: ↑Wed Apr 18, 2018 12:16 pmMaybe too far out of the box, but be sure to rule out gall bladder problems.
Some diabetics (and others) do not have the classic symptoms.
My mother-in-law nearly died, until they scoped her---
because her symptoms were not "by the book".

Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
So i've been on acid reflux meds for a few days and i've had less burping up food, but now I have diarrhea and a sore throat. I am almost 100% certain this is caused by the CPAP and air being trapped in my esophagus. The problem is I cannot sleep without the CPAP as my breathing has become weaker and weaker as my stomach feels more full daily.
Any ideas would be great, because at this point every doctor i've seen has been utterly hopeless at helping. They all want to get to the easiest diagnosis possible and get me out of there.
Is there some sort of medical that they actually try to look for a root problem instead of just trying to get you out the door?

Re: Burping Up Food. Throat Closing Up. HELP/ADVICE?
Wow, that's fascinating. I'm glad you posted. Didn't know it was possible, and I use steroid nasal spray all the time. Sorry you had this issue! It's hard to get a proper diagnosis when doctors don't truly listen and investigate.
