Heat symbol vs. Cool symbol on resmed AirSense10

Post by Sigridonocturna » Sun Aug 05, 2018 10:00 pm

Seems to me that one was able to change these settings. During cooler winter climates, I enjoy the warm air. BUT with overnight temps predicted 70-80's, NO thank you! Warm air in my face, and I will rip off the mask, completely. Followed all directions to attempt to change and save changes from warm to cool. Every time I do, switch unit on, it reverts back to warm! Spent 20 min or so hunting around resmed site, to see if changes were made recently, and zero luck.

So am I imagining things? Or is there some other reason why I can't set this properly?

I may end up calling the supply company, and see what they say. I've issues with communication skills, and usually end up calling an R.T friend, who gives me the straight up.

Any thoughts, or am I losing my mind?

Take the SD card out and make the changes...leave the card out briefly...then start the machine see if the changes hold or not with the SD card out of the machine. If they hold..
Then put the SD card back in the machine...see what happens to the changes.
If it reverts back once the card is in the machine then there's a script on the card overriding your changes. You will need to erase the card to get rid of that script.

Do you have the provider manual? There may be a setting in the clinical setup area that is locked preventing you from making changes stick. This explains how to get to that special clincal setup menu area.

Great idea!!! Yes, I had been through provider manual, without any reference found on heat/cool setting.

So I pulled the SD card. Made the changes, saved changes. Turned machine on without SD card inserted, and it automatically reverted to the warming icon.

Thanks for the idea!

Are you using a heated hose or regular hose?

The warming icon you see may just be for the humidifier itself and it's going to show up as heating unless you turn the humidifier off.
The act of just warming the water is maybe what you are seeing that you can't change.

If you are using a heated hose you can set the hose air temp to 60 degrees...now of course it can't cool the air so you start with whatever the room air temp is and if it is warmer than the setting the heated hose won't heat the air.
That's what I do...I turn the hose air temp as far down as it will go during the summer months and then up to almost max in the winter because I keep my bedroom really cold.

If you aren't using a heated hose then the only way to potentially change the hose air temp is simply by changing humidity setting and your nose might not like it if you do.

Now that I think about it...I think the warming icon is just for the water...not the hose air.

pretty sure on mine that the "heat" symbol means the humidifier is running and the "snowflake" means the fan is running after shutdown to dry the hose/mask. I believe it runs for 30minutes.

You are correct. Heat symbol means humidifier is heating the water. You can turn down the humidity level and that will result in less warming of the water (which is meant to increase humidity). You can also turn the temperature of the hose down if you’re using a heated climite line hose. Adjustable hose heater temperature is meant to prevent rainout when the room you’re in is really cool.

The snowflake icon is the unit cooling down or “drying mode” where it runs the blower for 20 minutes after your CPAP session ends to dry up any moisture that may have built up inside the hose.

Hope that helps
