Spouse & user sick

Post by MimiT » Wed Jan 08, 2020 2:35 pm

Is it possible for my husband’s CPAP machine to make me sick too? He didn’t clean it for almost 2 months, and we both started with respiratory issues and tinnitus that won’t go away. I’ve seen my primary care, a pulmonologist and an ENT, but it’s not getting any better. Thoughts?

No. The cpap machine can't make you sick.

One of you (whomever got sick first) just picked up some sort of upper respiratory virus and shared it with the other.

Nasty bugs going around. It's winter, it's flu season. CPAP's don't make the user or the other people in the family sick. Viruses you catch in the environment and pass to the other people in your family do.

I’ve been on cpap for 21 days (also me and my husband work in germy pharmacies and have a 10 year old germ factory) and I’ve only felt better and have clearer feeling lungs since starting. And that’s just rinsing my humidifier most nights and cleaned my mask a few times. I do not think cpap got you sick. Definitely not a non -user.

Ignore D.H.

You do not need to clean the machine itself. You can wipe it down on the outside if you are worried about the appearance.
You only need to clean the humidifier tank and the mask occasionally.
You can clean the hose if it makes you feel better.
You need to change out the intake filter when it gets dirty.

We do not know what machine you have so the above information is just a general suggestion.

Others may have more suggestions to add.

Do not get any liquid in the machine. Unless you want to buy a new one.

Get off hubby's case, already.
Most of us only clean our equipment when we feel like it.
It rarely needs more than a quick wipe, anyway.
More misery is inflicted by OCD family members.
Please don't be that person.

It didn't make him sick in the first place, and no, it can't magically infect you.

Look elsewhere.
