I tried the Somnifix strips and I think they helped but they went the way of my mask. I'd wake up in the morning and find them sticking to things - sometimes the nightstand, sometimes my pillow. So I bought the Knightsbridge Dual Chin Strap. I wore it for a little over an hour then had to tear it off my face. But when I checked my stats this morning, my AHI were at 1 for the hour I had it on. I've never been that low before. I think I need to get used to the Knightsbridge.

Tongue training does not work on unruly, disobedient tongues.
Some of us have tongues that do what they want the moment we fall asleep.
No, thank you--I need my sleep.
If my tongue plays all night, it will rest once it is tired enough.

Sounds like you might have some nasal obstruction. You might be subconsciously taking this stuff off during sleep so you can breathe.

Tried soft cervical collar, hard cervical collar, chin strap, hair bands, nothing stopped the leaks.
3M 2" Micropore tape works really great, zero leaks. Other tapes did not hold.

I am glad I tolerate full face masks well. Not the kind that goes over my nose, but the kind that goes under the nose & covers the mouth. I have found the F30 & F30i the best fit for me and both feel like I am wearing a nasal mask with chin strap. I tried to like nasal masks. I was hoping a nasal mask would work for me. I didn't like the headband method. I doubt I would like tape for the same reason, I need to breathe through my mouth in order to not feel like I am suffocating, and the chin strap didn't work well. Never did try the collar method, but that didn't seem like the route I wanted to take since I can tolerate the feel of full face masks. I just prefer my mouth being open when I sleep. Never could "train" myself to sleep with my mouth closed, and most nasal masks had straps that slipped. I do understand that some people can't tolerate or will not consider full face masks because of comfort issues, less mask is better, claustrophobia etc.. so they do have to resort to taping, collars, head bands, whatever works so that they don't have to wear a full face mask. I hope you find the best method for you.

Agreed, 2" 3M tape is the business for a leaky mouth.

I have a deviated septum and swollen turbinates. Two ENTs told me I needed surgery but I haven't had it. All of this is on the right side and I notice having trouble breathing when I turn on my side. I've read on here that surgery to fix deviated septum hasn't really helped people.

Not for my mouth, it's kinda working too much in the night. So I've tried "Fixomull stretch" with great success.

Depends what you mean by "helping people".

If by "helping people" you mean, to reduce apnea so one doesn't need CPAP, then yea, surgery probably won't help.

If by "helping people" you mean, to greatly improve one's ability t breathe through the nose and tolerate CPAP, then *a lot* of people here have benefited from it. Me being one of them.

I would consider greatly improving one's ability to tolerate CPAP to be help. Sounds like it might be worth going through it.

definitely get the surgery. you will feel better, breathe easier. My Sister had a deviated septum & the surgery helped her a great deal. Breathing better is important. To my knowledge, she is not on CPAP therapy. You will likely still need CPAP after the surgery, but your CPAP therapy should be more comfortable for you after the surgery.

I had deviated septum surgery in August of last year. Very glad I did, I can breathe so much better. It helped zero with reducing my sleep apnea though as confirmed by in hospital sleep study.
