Smell in New Resmad
Smell in New Resmad
Got my new Resmed. The smell is very strong. Is this normal in a new machine?
Re: Smell in New Resmad
Depends on the smell.
A faint perfumy smell is fairly common with new machines.

Re: Smell in New Resmad
A plastic-ish smell is not unexpected with new machines, hoses, and masks.
If you are sensitive, air it out really good before using.
I put a Yankee Candle sage and citrus air freshener near the air intake.
It pretty much cancels out anything but the bullfrog's dirty sock,
that inexplicably "found" its way under my nightstand.

New Machine! Congrats!
Question: Did you wash it before using? If not; do you trust it's clean and sanitized 'out-of-the-box?
I'm guilty for not washing my first machine upon initial use. My second machine, my DME actually instructed me to clean the humidifier tank and hose prior to use.

Re: Smell in New Resmad
I agree, 100%.
But isn't that part of their job description?

My DME? Yeah we can talk about DMEs all day long! Not a pleasant experience with them. I'm sure folks will 'chime in'.

Re: Smell in New Resmad
Well I was surprised last night. Changed the "ClimateLineAir" tube and plugged my old 22mm. I had washed everything before using but obviously not enough. The "ClimateLineAir" is hard to clean. A lot of work getting rid of all that manufacturing stuff. I don't have a DME. Only had one in 2013 for about a month. Since you guys know more than they do and since reading and researching is a good remedy....I stay alone.Passport in-hand wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 12:37 pmMy DME? That's just plain dumb.
Advice from the average DME is stuff to avoid doing,at all costs.Passport in-hand wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 6:53 amI'm guilty for not washing my first machine upon initial use. My second machine, my DME actually instructed me to clean the humidifier tank and hose prior to use.

Re: Smell in New Resmad
When I switched from PR to Resmed I thought the same thing. It was the different plastic in the heated hose. I gave everything a bath in Control III which helped a little bit but was still there. After a couple of weeks I dont really notice it as much but it's still there. I liken it to different types of new car smells between car manufacturers. My understanding of new car smells are that they are are off-gassing of the plastics. VOC's anyone?
