Lifespan of my machine

Hi all,

I my machine has just over 13,000 hours of blow time. Is that a lot? How long do these things typically last? This is my first one.

I have the REMStar 60 Series, purchased in 2015 from Grayghost4.

do you currently have a backup machine? because if you don't, now would be the time. your machine is 8 years old and i don't know how long the previous owner had it.

someday, it's going to start falling apart or cease functioning altogether. i can't give you a precise time and i'll let others chime in with that. but if it were me, i'd be looking for a replacement. it seems that cpap machines never break down at a convenient time.

I agree with Zonk. Most folks that don't have a backup machine will only get caught one time without a backup and they will never let it happen again. I keep one for me, and I have one for both of my kids. They don't have one, and guess who they call when theirs craps out? Don't tell them! If you have insurance, tell them yours is acting up. Maybe the buttons won't work... or something. The fourth or fifth year (I can't remember.... maybe the fifth), is when they normally will replace a machine without too many questions, and they will work to get you a new one. I once talked them into a new one after two years.

To the orginal poster,

It's time for a new one. I suggest you keep the old one as a backup (test it at least once per month by running it for at least ten minutes).

Due to the recall scandal, I recommend you not get a Phillips/Respironics machine (you don't have one now).

Although I have that brand personally and it seems fine, I am quite put off by the scandal and would not get another one.

Wasn't the 60 series part of the Philips recall? If so you may be eligible for a new replacement unit from Philips. They sent me a new Dreamstation 2 for my old System One CPAP purchased back in 2015.

Yep it sure was part of the recall.

Pretty much all the machines after the M series models were included in the recall and that includes all the System One 50 or 60 series models.
