Ponaris nasal emollient

Post by Guest » Fri Dec 14, 2007 12:56 am

Has anyone tried this nasal gel to help control dry nasal passages? In the winter my nasal passages get very dry and I turn up my humidifier to compensate, but after a time my nose gets stuffy, so I would like to try the gel so I can stay at one or passover on the humidifier. My ENT recommended it, but before I buy it on line I would like to make sure it works first. I can't seem to find it at our local Pharmacies, like Walgreen's or Rite-aid. Any information on this nasal gel would be appreciated.

I have not used this, but I did check it out . I think I would prefer Ayr gel when using cpap. Ponaris is made with botanical oils. Ayr gel is not and is recommended for cpap users. It can be used directly on the mask as well as in or around the nostrils. I would not want to use Ponaris on my mask personally. I really love the Ayr gel, very comforting to irritated nasal passages.

Hi,
I was having alot of eustacian tube problems earlier this year. I saw an ENT and he recommended the ponaris nose drops. He said the astronauts use it (if that makes a difference??). I only used it once and my eustacian tubes stayed clear right up until today. I have no idea if it was those drops or not. But when I used it that one time, it really cleared things out in my sinuses.
I got it otc at the pharmacy.......but you have to ask for it. I think I paid $16 for a small bottle.
I don't know how it would be for just on your skin.

I like the Ponaris oil drops. It is nice to know that a medical person would acknowledge a natural remedy. It works great!

Thanks for the replies, the drops are what I am looking for. I have the AYR gel and it works good around the nose and just inside. My ENT said that the Ponaris gel drops would help keep the nasal passages open and clear, without using a higher setting on my H/H, just wondering how well it works for post nasal drip? Guess I will buy a bottle and give it a try.

Hi Dan,
The only time I used it, it made my nasal passage and sinuses feel very open......like sudafed does. I'm not sure what it would do for post nasal drip........but give it a try and let us know.

Hi Country4ever,

I have seasonal allergies that also cause my Eustachian tubes to get clogged up...while the post nasal drip can cause my tonsils to swell up causing my pressures to increase. My ENT wants to remove my Tonsils, but that sounds pretty painful at my age, hoping the ponaris will help with the post nasal drip, will let you know when I try it.

Hi Dan,
I'm curious......did you get mono when you were a teenager?
Do you tonsils just get swollen or do they get infected?
I would personally try to hold on my tonsils......unless they caused you a ton of problems. They are there for a good reason, and I'd sure try to keep them if at all possible.
My daughter never had problems with her tonsils until she got mono when she was 18. Now they seem to cause her lots of problems, along with allergies/colds.

I have never had mono, but my ENT says my tonsils are very large and that I would be a good candidate for the surgery. She said it wouldn't get me of the Bipap but would lower my pressure, by how much, she doesn't really know. My tonsils very seldom get infected, but they do swell up when I caught a lot or get post nasal drip, so will try the ponaris and see if it helps, thanks. Surgery will be my last resort.

I realize I am resurrecting an ancient thread but I thought I would comment because I have relevant experience. (I was just searching for info on ponaris and whether it's actually used by NASA--or was at some time--and stumbled on this thread.)

I had huge tonsils. So huge they touched during allergy season. I had them removed in my early 30s. Shortly after that I was off not only bipap, but all cpap. To be fair I also had braces to fix a problem with my receded jaw at around the same time. Both interventions probably had an effect.

10 years later and I'm still cpap free and only have apnea when I sleep on my back, which I obviously avoid.
