Hi, drubin. C-Flex, A-Flex and EPR are all forms of exhale relief. When engaged, they lower the pressure on exhale to make it easier for the user to adapt to therapy. But sometimes these things work against good therapy, as some of us experience apneas if there's not enough pressure on exhale.

I'm no expert, but I hope that helps.

I use the nasal pillows (respironics) on the S2 cpap, with heated humidifier... mentioned it in the past, but setting of 9, ramp time of 45 minutes (which I was scorned for). Think it has been 2 weeks now, or coming up on the 3rd?) that I have been on cpap. Hold on, let me check my paperwork...

05/11 I got it, so guess it has been 2 weeks today.

anyhoo... been writing down my numbers for ai, ahi, hi for the past few days.. will post up in about a week to see if I need an adjustment.

Not going to jack someone elses thread here, really wondered what these terms meant so I could input if relevant.
Hi Dr,
My understanding of the c-flex is that it is used for exhalation relief. It helped me a great deal when I first started versus using the "blower" they TRIED to push off on me. I noticed about a week or so ago I was starting to feel like I was back to fighting aginst the exhale. So I posted got answers and turned off my C-flex last night. As you can see I feel so far it was much better without.

I am not familiar with your machine but, I am sure someone will chime in with thier wisdom, and knowledge.

That's probably because I'm not sleeping enough and am here too often!

Glad to hear it! I love my ceiling fan and use it often. It gets me through those warmer nights when the evaporative cooler is not on yet. Evap. coolers don't offer as much cooling as real a/c, but they're more cost-effective, and they actually add humidity to the air (which is not a bad thing, here in Aridzona).

What a sweetheart you are. Right back atcha, girl!

Let's hope you're not seeing "dots" again tonight...

Well, in my search for improved therapy by any means available to me (before I see the sleep doc next week), I decided to drop my C-Flex and see how I fared. It was set at 3, and I dropped it right to 1 last night, rather than the step-down approach I was considering. So far, no problems; in fact, I really didn't notice much of a difference at all. The curious thing about that is, during my sleep study with no C-Flex, the exhale pressure was very noticeable and difficult for me; perhaps that's because it went straight to my 14cm while I was still awake, with no ramp. I use the ramp at home (set for 20 minutes to reach 14, by which time I'm asleep.)

So this morning, I decided to try to shut off C-Flex completely. But there's no "off" position available to me, as a user; just 1, 2 or 3 in the settings. I consulted the set-up guide for my machine that I had downloaded awhile back (since the user guide I was given by the DME contains no info about C-Flex; it's for the Remstar Plus, not the Plus w/C-Flex). I got into the Clinician's set-up menu, where the "off" feature is located for C-Flex. I'll see how that goes tonight, but based on last night's experience, I expect it'll be fine. I still don't know if it's having any positive effect on my therapy, as I didn't sleep any better or worse than I usually do, but I figured it was worth a shot.

BTW, speaking of my DME... The RT called me yesterday to inquire about the return of an autopap I had borrowed from them last October. The RT said their records show that I still have that machine. Oy! My ex-doctor's office had set up that auto trial; I got the machine from the DME, used it at home, and then brought it to the doctor's office so they could read the data card. The staff person there offered to save me a trip to the DME, told me to leave the machine with them, and they'd return it to the DME that day.

So either the doctor's office never returned the machine to the DME or the DME is so screwed up that they don't know it was returned eight months ago. Considering my experiences with both of these places, it's anyone's guess...

I've been having a lot of problems with air in the eyes. Not meaning to hijack this thread, it was my thought that using c-flex max (3) would decrease some pressures and perhaps less air in eyes (through the nasal passages, not from mask). What are your thoughts on this?

Interesting ! I have been reading all this about c flex affecting the ahi numbers and decided to try my epr setting at a 1 instead of 2 on my elite II. The resusults so far has been a decrease in ahi by almost half the past two nites. The first nite it even seemed that i could breath mutch more easy. I use a swift lt and heated humidifier also. I may try it shut off all the way soon.

I can use no "flex" with my Optilife, but NOT with the Hybrid. The difference is the pillow angle is adjustable on the Optilife and I get a better fit. The Hybrid loses seal at the front of my nares during exhale without C-flex. I'm at 18.

The OSA patient died quietly in his sleep.
Unlike his passengers who died screaming as the car went over the cliff...

Well you Inspired me to try my Swift LT with no C-flex and I have to say I had a really good night. I was concerned I would be huffin and puffin against it with the pillows, but actually it was so much easier to breath. My AHI was 0.6 this morning and I woke up EARLY lol!
Also turned my humidifier off, and that has strangely helped with dry mouth. So to all I say "Tweak, until you find what works for you!" Good luck to all of us in this journey!
Happy FatiguedMe

I am over 3 weeks now with not one true succesfull night on therapy. I am reading this and thinking that C-flex may be what is bothering me. I have my one month follow up next week. Should I try to shut off c-flex or wait for my follow up. Is it even possible to shut it off with my machine? I seem to concentrate on the breathing and the noise it makes. I did not have c-flex in my sleep study, and remembering adapting to the breathing after a while.

I turned off c-flex last night and actually fell asleep. The noise level was much lower. I did wake a few times during the night, but i think I went about 3 hours before the first time. I will try again tonight.
