Travel Question

I am about to travel by air for the first time with my CPAP stuff. Will TSA have trouble with my hoszer hose hanger? It breaks down into sections of rods. Can I pack it in my carry-on like I will my machine, mask and other accessories or do I need to put it in my checked baggage?

I wouldnt take the hose hanger or humidifier, remember the seats are cramped

you nearly always need to get the airlines permission to use a CPAP and to use your particular make and model too

you need a seat with a power point that can cope with the amount of power your CPAP uses, some power points can cope with a laptop only, unless you take a battery and you need the airlines permission for your type of battery too

unless you have made special arrangements beforehand, I doubt they will let you use your CPAP, you will generally have to pay more than basic economy for a seat with a suitable power outlet

people usually snore less when sitting up...... so is it worth the trouble?

do not ever ever ever pack your cpap in checked luggage, there should be no problem with your hose hanger being packed in checked luggage. you should not have to call a head of time to be able to take your cpap on board with you, the bag that it is carried in does not count as a carry on. tsa will probably want to inspect it. make sure they clean the table change gloves and use a fresh pad they use for explosive dection. you you plan on using your cpap on board, you for sure will have to have permission.

Is there an alternative to taking the CPAP with you? Sleeping in a recliner? Using pillows to prop yourself up? Most of my flights are 90 minute jumps on commuters. The more you carry the bigger the hassle. I am actually consider just driving (drive out on Sunday and return on Saturday). Don't think my employer would complain, it would be cheaper than flying.

I won't need CPAP on the plane. But, I do think I need to take it on the trip. I will be gone a week and driving is not an option. I decided just to put the simple hose hanger in my checked baggage and put the essential items in my carry on luggage.

I just returned from 2 weeks in Germany and packed my CPAP into checked luggage. I didn't need the machine on the plane. I had no problems at all with the whole trip and my Respironics worked great in Germany.

I have only had a CPAP for a 5 weeks and I _love_ it.

you ae taking a very big risk puting your machine in checked luggage, it can get stolen damage. just watch next time your at the airport at the guys loading luggage, they throw luggage it drops off the cart, not to mention it can get stolen. and if it does get broken or stolen i am sure it would be a bgrat big hassle getting it reaplaced or repaird.

I wouldn't put anything fragile or valuable in my luggage.

Once I found a few buttons on a dress shirt broken after a flight. Also I have had the airlines lose baggage.

I carry the hose hanger in both checked and carry on. Never an issue. expect to take out the cpap as you go through xray.
