Is the PAP CAP effective for you?

Post by bearinthefield » Thu Mar 31, 2011 11:28 am

I am a rookie at this and starting with Swift nasel pillow jobbie. I get lip puffs or leaks, even with a homemade chin strap ( a sweat/headband). I want to avoid going to a full face like a Quattro, as I am guessing it will be hard to adjust to. I have tried a Mirage Liberty which gouged my upper lip.

For those of you who have used a PAP CAP, did it stop mouth leaks adequately for you?

My thanks to those who take the time to share your experiences on this forum. It is most beneficial to those of us at the start of this little journey. I also appreciate how (almost all) of you focus on the topics which brought us here.

CPAP helped me too. I'm really enjoying my new Intellipap even more.

I agree with Bodhi about the Swift Fx nose pillows. I started using them with the new machine and my leak rate stays within predictable limits. I haven't experience a large leak (>95Lmin).

I also have a few "lip leaks" but the reports indicate they are very low. Learned to keep my mouth shut years ago because every time I opened it while on CPAP I couldn't breath at all.

I really like my papcap. I don't have a problem with it being hot. It is very light weight material and is breathable. It is also very nice since the pressure get distributed across the whole top of your head instead of just along a set of narrow straps. I don't really even notice it when it is on.

I absolutely did have success with the papcap when I was using my Comfort Gel nasal mask. However, I had a cold and tried the Quattro FF mask and liked it...I have been using the Quattro for about 18 months.

Absolutely, not only does it stop my jaw dropping and mouth leaks it also helped keep my mask in position when i first started out (using the sidestraps).
I own 4 of them now includung the older style one with the cosmic pattern. I stocked up on them because Brett is shutting up shop soon.

if you subscribe to his newsletter then you can get a 20% coupon code. The last one was PS223, i'm not sure if that still works.

I just ordered one and it should arrive tomorrow or Monday. I don't think I'm having issues with mouth breathing, but I thought it was worth a try anyway. I let you know if it affects my leak rate or AHI.

You really need to try as everyone is different, plus they have a great refund policy.
I taped for a few months, then tried the papcap plus without much success. Went back to tape but then found was leaking more and more. So tried the papcap again - for last 2 wks it's kept my leaks within reasonable limits.

I use it with a full face mask. I wouldn't be without one. With most of my masks, it replaces the straps entirely. It's about time to order a new one.
