Sleep Apnea, a cat conspiracy?!

Post by MyIdaho » Mon Jan 14, 2013 12:29 pm

Hmmm, I've noticed that many of us are owned by cats. And, I think I've figured it out... It is cat conspiracy to keep us tired with sleep apnea so we will forget whether they've had their treat or not and just give em another one! Plus, we're tired so they can nap with us more often! Just a thought...

Hmmm...I think you might be on to something there.

Well in my case, my cat "diagnosed' the apnea long before I or my dr had a clue that something was going on.

At my yearly physical, I told my dr that I wasn't sleeping well because my cat kept waking me up at night. She would nuzzle/head butt my nose/face several time throughout the night. Every night without fail she would head butt me awake between 2-2:30. She didn't want food or attention. My dr (who also has a cat) sent me for sleep study and well here I am.

Interestingly, the sleep study and subsequent data showed the the most/worst events happened between 2-2:30. And now she sniffs the mask when I put it on/start it up, but doesn't wake me up anymore.

First I've heard of a patient being catapneascan-diagnuzzled.

*patent ideas start rolling around in back of mind*

Wow, what a neat story! Cats are absolutely marvelous pets and I can't imagine not having one around. I didn't have a cat headbutt me due to apnea but they do know when I'm not well and proceed to give me hours of purr therapy... Best medicine ever!!!

We had a cat that would fall asleep on my shoulder; and skedaddle as soon as I nodded off.
It may have been my snoring. At any rate, he was not one to hang around during the chainsaw massacre.

Great story...sounds like a "service" cat *smile*. We don't allow the cat in the bedroom at night because she keeps us awake doing the things that cats do on the bed. I'm talking about grooming and scratching, and so on, just so that's clear.

The really obnoixious cat I brought home form the shelter because he chased everyone around with intent to do them harm, LOVES my DH. He was also waking him up when he stopped breathing at night, now as long as he has his CPAP machine on he lets him sleep all night, but he wakes him up if he takes it off and stops breathing. At least hes good for something.

I heard of a lady who took her Bengal cat on cruises as he was a certified sleep apnea cat.

Did your CAT bill you for a CAT-scan?
Now you should get a Dog, a LAB, so you can get a LAB report.

Our beautiful tabby does something similar. Whenever i used to snore, she would start scratching the side of the bed. When i woke, she would then leisurley walk away. I also think there is a feline conspiracy. Maybe they find our snoring annoying. It disturbes their beauty sleep?

OK, one is usually enough but this one just came in my FB newsfeed and I found it hilarious because we saw the other version, Life of Pi, and did not like it.

Very true! Love the kitty in your avatar, such beautiful blue eyes!!! Reminds me of our departed Honey Girl that was all white with a blue eye and a green eye! Your kitty could get treats from me by just batting her eyes at me, I'm sucker for blue eyes...
