Strap over head causes an dent

Post by jerryez » Thu Feb 21, 2013 10:07 am

My CPAP strap over the top of my head is causing an indent in the top of my scull. Is this normal or what can I do about it.
I have been on CPAP for about 5 months, but just noticed it in the last two weeks. Do not know when it occured. As the day progresses, the indent decreases, but it never goes away.

It's a soft tissue phenomenon. It won't alter the bony part of the skill.

http://www.padacheek.com/ has some nice fleece straps that can be used to soften and disperse the pressure from the strap.

You can use a strap cushion/pad. Mine is from padacheek (padacheek.com). They are soft and prevent the "dents". I was getting the dents on my temples and around the back of my head and the padacheek strap covers solved the problem for me. Some folks will use a cap or stocking cap of sorts.

Padding sounds like the best plan.
Something that will spread the pressure out over a larger area.
You want soft, smooth fabric next to your skin.
Avoid corduroy or bubble wrap unless you are going to a party.
It might be a good idea to see your PCP, if you haven't lately.
You could be experiencing some edema, doctor may need to adjust your meds.
--could also be more serious, general circulatory distress of some sort.

Dents are normal.... it's the invisible injection points for the drugs being administered to you

After 5 months, Jerry notices the dents--it could be a new development.
I really would check with the doctor, if it is new, it could indicate something that needs attention.

Edited my profile. Looked at skull caps. I would need one that replaces my current strap. Have not found one for the Mirage Quattro Fx Full Face Mask.

Found a cap head gear on eBay.

I will have to wait until I receive it to see if it fits my mask.

Hope I'm wrong, but that picture doesn't make it look as if it is padded or thick. How is that going to help?

Regards, Nate

It was only eight dollars. We will just have to wait and see. It shipped today. It looks like a small cap with straps on it. The straps have velcro on the ends and it should replace the existing strap that is leaving the depression in my skull.

Whike waiting for my new strap, I took an old ball cap and cut the bill off the cap. I then put the cap on my head and put the strap over the cap. I slept with it last night and the depression in my skull was much less noticeable this morning. Since, I usually wear a ball cap most of the time, it didn't bother me to sleep in it. After a few nights, I am sure that the depression will go away. It does not to seem to be permanent.
