Sleeping on your back
Sleeping on your back
I have slept on my side for years. I think it is the body's way of
compensating. Now the Doctor has ordered me to sleep on my side!
However, now that I am on PAP I have this strong desire to sleep on
my back. I start out on my side, but quickly go to my back. Is this OK?
Shouldn't I be able to sleep on my back if PAP is working?

If you know that your machine is able to handle your events while on your back, go ahead. Your pressure requirements may be greater while on your back. I don't recall, do you have an auto machine with software to monitor your results? Funny story...I've read posts by people who were told to sew tennis balls to the back of their pajamas so that they can't lay on their back.
Sincerely,

Hi,
I've slept on my back forever. My pressure is at 12.5 but I'm using a new PB420 E so it has been in the 8-10 range. My wife says only need to stick flowers in my hand and I'll look like a corpse. I do alternate bending a knee. Thankfully it miinimizes mask problems, which unfortunately seems to be a big problem for most of you.
Also, Liam how are you doing with your machine and mask? I hope well!
There's more discussion about you in the posts than the technical stuff.Well whatever lightens the load! Wen

There is a definition of "doctor" and it goes....
"Being a doctor is the art of distracting the patient long enough so that the nody heals itself"
I have long know that doctors don't know it all and I have on many occasions argued with them to the edge of disrespect about what my body is telling me. I would advise you to do the same - listen to your body - it knows how to heal itself - (most of the time)

As of right now, I'm doing passably well, but not great. I've still got my Remstar Pro-2, someone showed me how to turn on CFLEX (would you believe they gave it to me with it off to start with? Morons.)Wen wrote:Also, Liam how are you doing with your machine and mask? I hope well!
I've been through 4 or 5 masks on a trial basis and have tried on another 4 or 5, and am currently alternating between the Swift (when I can keep my nasal passages open) and the Mirage Ultra FF (when I can't).
I'm still taking the mask off about halfway through the night, and when sleeping with the FF mask, I often wake up with a stiff neck, because I'm predominently a side sleeper (either side, alternately), but the mask makes me twist my head toward the up side.
So.... I haven't given up, but I've not really seen the benefits yet, either.
Liam, giving it the old "college try". By which he means drinking until he throws up, and then cramming for the exam.
Yeah, I should. I have a Tempur-Pedic mattress, so I know the marvel that is memory foam.Mikesus wrote:Try getting a contour pillow with memory foam. With it I have been able to sleep on either side, and my back... (I have heard about pap pillows, but not seen one...)
(They're expensive, and they take some time to get used to, but once you do, MAN are they comfortable. Before I knew I had apnea, I hoped the mattress would solve ALL of my sleep problems.)
Liam, not the Tempur-Pedic president, only a client.

New cpap user
This is my first week using the CPAP machine. I have been wondering what to do about getting pillows that will let me have a more comfortable sleep.
Thanks for mentioning about the contour pillow with memory foam.... I bought one with microfiber but it still does not work very well. Also, the mask and headgear they fitted me with is a nasal one and the pressure
of it hurts my nose.... I have ordered new headgear with a regular mask but it will take a week or so to get here.
Any ideas on how to make the nasal mask fit more comfortably?

I've suggestted before to use bandaids or tape for pressure points for the mask. I use tape under the top head pad to minimize irritation. I also use vicks vapor rub just under each nostril to keep sinus open, And Yes I use the inhalers Rhino cort, Atrovent, etc. but the Vicks helps alot.
