AirMini - More Info (And ask your questions)

There is an online company that now offers the AirMini with a 30 day return policy (I am not sure if I can say the name?). I decided to bite the bullet and try it out.

So far impressed with size but not much else

The noise is as bad as people say! LOL.

My normal setup is AirSense 10 with P10 pillows.
On the AIrMini, when inhaling, sounds similar to the amount of noise that my normal P10 makes when pulled away from my face. Yes it's that loud! When exhaling it's pretty quiet.

We will see if I can sleep with it tonight and what my impressions of the HumidX are.

I have had a hard time visualizing the size of the thing. Here are some comparison pictures with my AirSense 10.
The AirMini itself is similar in size to the power brick for the AirSense 10. If you are trying to figure out how much space this would take in luggage, imagine the AirSense 10 power cord (Brick and the extra cord) and you'll be pretty close.

Picture 2 is showing AirSense 10 power brick and "cord" on the left, and the AirMini unit and its power cord on right.

If you have questions ask away. Unfortunately I think this will be going back and I'll be hauling the AirSense 10 around until ResMed sorts out a better way to muffle airflow.

Confused. I saw my first mini in person at a friend's house last night and was very impressed by size and weight. Asked friend to use it (put on and breath for a few minutes, pillow style mask) so I could hear the noise. It was super quiet. SO: is the noise audible only to the wearer? Friend said it was as quiet to them as their big newest model resmed machine. Humidifier unit was in place. Also: if you put a towel over the machine leaving only the venting part uncovered would that solve the issue? Machine is expensive....but size and weight super attractive for travel.....

I have no idea! Come over and listen while I wear it. I'm also younger than most pap users.

I was able to fall asleep just fine after a few minutes but I think the machine is considerably louder than my Air10. It's not the main unit that makes noise -- it's the HumidX thing. The air vents are around the perimeter of the HumidX chamber (holder, whatever). I wonder if they redesigned this with more vent holes (lower velocity air going through the vent holes) if the noise would be less.

I'll have a bedmate this weekend so I'll check with them.

Your pictures show that with all the ancillary equipment (power brick, etc) the size of the Airmini is starting to get near the size of the Airsense 10 if you're packing it into a bag. If it's traveling that is your reason for buying the Airmini, try taking the humidifier off the Airsense and then see what the difference is. I happily travel with my full size machine.

A final note, your Airmini doesn't appear to have a battery.

I have an airmini and a Dreamstation. The airmini is a little noisier but, I don't really notice much difference when I use it.
I read that there is a battery that will work with the mini. Sorry - I can't remember what battery it is, or where I read about it. This battery works with another Resmed machine too.

Based on pictures alone I felt the same way and in fact I purchased the "humidifier delete" side panel for my AirSense 10 precisely to try what you describe.

Having it in person, I have to say that I disagree that it is "starting to get near" the size of the Airsense 10.

I would say a better comparison is that packing the AirMini kit is like packing up the AirSense 10 kit...minus the AirSense itself!

I don't think I'd be able to use this without a humidifier. I've traveled with my old S9 all the time and never was an issue since it was not counted as part of my carry on luggage. Personally, I'll save my money and just travel with my full size unit. It's not that big of a deal.

My bed mate reported that the AirMini didn’t really seem any louder. I think some of the sound may be conducted to the wearer more than others. I think/hope ResMed can improve the noise level with an improved hose assembly. I am leaning towards keeping the unit. I like being able to travel for a weekend with just a small bag.

Now that you've had the AirMini for a while, I'd be grateful for an update about your experience with it.

Are you happy, overall?

Is the noise level a problem for either you or your bedmate?

Do the HumidX discs (or whatever they're called, sorry) provide adequate humidification?

I have had my air min for awhile now. I really like it! I am currently in hospital and find it great here! The humidex disks work fine for me but I use passover humidity (water - no heat) on my bigger machine so may not be enough for some.

I've been using the AirMini with nasal pillows and HumidX for 10 nights. I think I get slightly better sleep with the AirMini vs. my ResMed AutoSet 10 For Her (I sometimes have the problem with the mesh vents on the regular AirFit P10 mask clogging, so the different venting on the AirMini AirFit P10 seems helpful for me). I have before/after sleep data with the Pillow Apple Watch app which seems to support my subjective assessment that I'm resting slightly better with the AirMini.

I am investigating switching to the AirMini as my primary machine, keeping my big machine and new supplies as backup. Has anyone else switched to the AirMini as a primary machine? I know ResMed has a disclaimer about it being intended for travel. I wonder if it will be as durable.

I'm also curious if anyone in the US has been successful getting the AirMini or supplies for it covered by their insurer. My DME says they don't have codes so can't bill insurance for anything AirMini and I'm waiting to see if my claim will go through with Humana.

I bought my airmini for travel/backup -but I ended up in hospital/rehab for 2 months now and have been using my airmini all that time - still here, so still using it. I had also used it, for an extended period, at home before I went to hospital because I liked how it worked well for me. I can tell you it has worked, and is still working fine, for me. I have to watch that I don't block the vents near the humidifier disk but, no problem, if I watch that.
I am in Canada, so can't answer your question about insurance. Hope it works as well for me as it does for me! Good luck on the insurance!
