Mold in the Water in Machine

Hi -

So I've got this red mold that is in the corners of my water reservoir in AirCurve 10ST. Vinegar doesn't seem to be working to get it out. Any ideas. I can't imagine that being good for me to ingest.

Have you ever actually *scrubbed* it? Or just rinsed it with water and vinegar? I have had to wipe out reservoirs with Qtips (the system One tanks are awful for this) to get the pink slime out of the corners, even when using distilled pretty religiously. It may be time for a WEAK bleach solution and a good scrubdown

That sounds like the red slime that sometimes built up at our old house when we were moved to county processed water.

I did not have CPAP then though. The dishwasher chamber is a good idea, IMHO.

Once you get it out, I suggest using only distiller water from that point on (if you're in the US or Canada), and draining it every morning. In the US, distilled water sells at 88¢ per US gallon at Walmart (not sure about the Canadian price).

I've had that stuff show up before even when using distilled - just needs a tiny bit of elbow grease to get rid of... If it's a continuing problem, make sure your emptying and drying out your water chamber on a regular basis. If I remember correctly the pink slime a bacteria film that forms on surfaces that are both wet and near the air. IE: Ring around the toilet water line - or bathtub/shower curtain, wet places. It's an airborne bacteria not a mold. It needs water to grow.

I'd get a little scrub brush that you can get inside your water chamber - something like a veggie brush sold in kitchen stores or a baby bottle cleaner and just get in there with some soap and water and scrub it all away. Maybe use a bit of mouth wash as a disinfectant and give you a nice minty smell for later.

For what it's worth I wouldn't be too freaked out but I'd be cleaning that gunk out of my water chamber.

Curious. At our old house we did not have it when we were on a well-based community water system. When we were switched to the county system with chlorine, etc. we got the slime.
Now we are on well water with an acid reducing filter. No slime.

Swish it around until it gets everywhere, dump the excess, and air dry.

It's not mold, it's a bacteria, it's commonly found in bathrooms.

It's not picked up by the water evaporating into the airstream.

I don't think most of us have to worry if we are cleaning / scrubbing our chambers regularly... I don't use mine at all, I have the side cover myself...

I have a water bottle I use for work, where we have a big brand name filter system for our drinking water (thus, softened water). My bottle gets pink slime if I don't scrub it out once a week. I'll empty it and wipe it dry, and the paper towel comes out pink. I therefore scrub out the straw once a week with a pipe cleaner. I imagine the same thing is happeneibg with the OP's reservior...

I have a Dreamstation. They recommend putting the water chamber in the dishwasher once a week. If yours is dishwasher safe, maybe that will eliminate the "pink slime" in the future?
