Mirage Liberty Full face nasal pillow leaks...Help anyone!!!
Fellow cpapers,
I use the Mirage Liberty full face with nasal pillows. I use the large oral cushion with large nasal pillows. I keep getting leaks from my nasal pillows. I can't seem to control them in anything I do. I have tired compressing them more than 50% and it doesn't help. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to achive a good fit with my mirage liberty. My titraged pressure is 12cm which i am using with the resmed s8 ellite 2 machine. I look forward to hearing from my fellow cpapers on how you control your leaks with either the mirage liberty or any nasal pillow mask. I need tips badly. Please help. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks a bunch!
Sincerely,
Chad

I'm sorry I can't help you with the Liberty--I had the exact same problem. No matter what size I tried, I couldn't get a good seal and had leak problems.
I ended up using the Hybrid mask--same idea as the Liberty, but slightly different configuration. No problems at all with leaking now. The nice thing about the Hybrid is that the first mask comes with three sizes of mouth pieces (S, M, L) AND three sizes of nasal pillows. The actual height of the nasal pillows is also easily adjustable--a real plus in getting a good fit. I played with all the sizes and heights until I found the perfect combination for me. It's also very secure and I don't jar it loose during the night.

i have read thoughs links. It was helpful, but i tried the liner idea and it didn't work for me. Any other ideas for me?? I know there are other mirage liberty users out there. Can you chime in and give me your feedback on what works for you. I look forward to hearing from other liberty users.

Have you tried Lasinoh (lanolin) cream to help seal the leaks? If that doesn't work, you might consider superglue (cyanoacrylate) or a different mask.

You might want to try a different size pillow.
You might want to try tying something around your head (I use a shoelace) to go under the pillows and hold them in proper place.
You might want to try Lansinoh just lightly on the inside of your nares.
Good luck!

Re: Mirage Liberty Full face nasal pillow leaks...Help anyone!!!
Hi Chad... I too tried the Liberty FF mask. I had leaks, dry nose, and dry mouth. I tried for over 3 weeks and I gave up. After 3 masks, I was given the OptiLife with nasal cradles, not pillows. The cradle is nice... it doesn't go up your nose at all. I am a mouth and nose breather, it does come with a chin strap and after a few weeks I think my brain has trained my mouth to stay shut. (My family says that in it of itself is a miracle! ) I hope that helps.blackberry37 wrote:Fellow cpapers,

Re: Mirage Liberty Full face nasal pillow leaks...Help anyone!!!
I have had problems with the Mirage Liberty nasal pillows popping out. My solution, which works 95% of the time, is to use the largest pillows that will go up into my nose and tightening the upper headgear straps as much as I can while still being reasonably comfortable. These are the straps that actually pull the pillows into the nostrils so make them snug. I then adjust the lower headgear straps to pull the bottom of the mask just tight enough so that it will retain a good seal. Also, wash the mask daily in a gentle hand soap solution to make sure that there are no oils on it then wash your face with the same soap just before going to bed. I had to play around with the pillows and straps but I think I have it right now.
If you have the ResScan software and a PC check your leak levels, paying attention to the 95% level, until it is as small as you can get it. Let me know the results.

I use the Mirage Liberty and find the very best way to get a good seal on the nasal pillows (and mouth cushion) is to get comfy with the mask on sitting up in bed, then I watch tv or read for 20-30 minutes and 'jiggle' with the mask on and off - release the straps a little then tighten so that the tension is the same on both sides - firm but not squeezing. When it feels the mask is comfy and snug fitting, I pull the mouth cushion away from my face a little and then let it go so that it feels a more natural fit. Then I make sure the nasal pillows are positioned firmly but comfortable.
When I spend a few minutes 'jiggling' the mask like this, I have a much better sleep with usually no wake ups. If I lay down as soon as my mask is on, I spend quite a while adjusting and/or waking up during the night.

If you have problems with the pillows staying seated, have you tried using a leg from a pair of women's tights to stabilize them? Some people have luck using a stretchy headband.

Here are some tips for the original Hybrid mask which may help with the Liberty, wiki/index.php/Hybrid_Mask_Modifications .
The ladies' tight fix is excellent for securing the nasal pillows.
