Oscar stopped working on my PC

Post by Bluper » Thu Jun 15, 2023 9:05 am

I've been using Oscar since I bought my laptop, but it suddenly stopped working. I have windows 11. I uninstalled it and reinstalled. Still won't open. Any ideas?

Uninstall (yes, once again)
Check if your computer is waiting for a post update restart

Make sure you're updated
Restart
Re-install.

There was a longish update this Tuesday (2nd Tuesday of the month, Microsoft day for updates).

My Oscar is working fine on Windows 11 after that update.

Do you get an error message?

Could your screen driver be a source of the problem?

I'm not computer savy. I have no idea if a screen driver is the issue. I did the big Windows update. Oscar worked before that update. I just uninstalled and reinstalled Oscar. Still all I get is my name, machine and date. View files doesn't work. I ran a troubleshooting program, and nada! I turned off virus protection too.

The culprit may be that the Graphics Engine was somehow set to “Software Engine” instead of the default “Desktop OpenGL”

That setting will sometimes make OSCAR take an inordinate time to render the screen view.

Let it sit for an hour(??? How ever long it takes)

Once the Welcome screen or the Profile screen comes up, go to File menu, Preferences, General tab.

Change the setting to OpenGL. Save by clicking OK.

Exit and restart OSCAR.

Good luck.

Thanks. It's running now. I'll let it sit and marinate for awhile.

I left it open all night. Still no welcome page. I'll uninstall the program. The new windows update did something. Oscar has worked fine up until the update. Maybe some time down the road it will work again. I wish Oscar would work on my galaxy 7 tablet.

As Grumpy suggested there might be an incompatibility with the Graphics Engine.

Here is the OSCAR wiki that may provide a solution:
https://www.apneaboard.com/wiki/index.p ... leshooting

The easiest to try, is to force it to use the Software engine. To do so press and hold the SHIFT key while OSCAR is starting.

If this works you can then go into preferences and select OpenGL, or Angle. To see which works or doesn't work.

If using the SHIFT key method doesn't work, you can then try the FixGrapics registry method.

  • Open the folder where the OSCAR program is located
  • Press and hold the SHIFT key
  • Start OSCAR by double clicking

All that comes up is a thin strip at the top of the page with my name, machine and date. When I click on view and daily, or anything in view, no change. I've tried troubleshooting. Nothing. I once again, purged all things Oscar in my laptop than downloaded again, same results. It isn't downloading the program. It just reads what is on the sd card I insert. I'm not smart enough to figure this out. I will really miss Oscar. It was the only way I could manage my treatment. Are there any other programs that might work? My Air is wothless.

The only alternative is sleepHQ.

SleepHQ.com is a website where you create an account and then uplad the data from your SD Card.

I prefer OSCAR, but there are some advantages to using sleepHQ.

There is ResScan.
You have to be registered and logged in to be able to see the hidden files that will explain how to get ResScan.

Windows based software only. Not always so easy to manage.

FIXED: Oscar stopped working on my PC

Post by amarnina » Thu Aug 29, 2024 11:25 pm

I took notice of the advice given by GrumpyHere about preferences, under General being set to Software Engine, and to change it to OpenGL, I did that but the choice was Angle / OpenGLES but that was close enough to what Grumpyhere advised and darned if using the drop down arrow to change that fixed my OSCAR not working issue. Closed and restarted the application and it worked great.
