I got my CPAP Titration results back

Post by Eerie » Sat Nov 01, 2014 12:31 am

Ok, I just got my CPAP Titration study results back. I have had no one to tell me what any of this means, as I've not talked to my sleep doctor since my initial consultation. Both times I took an Ambien to help me fall asleep, though that's not something I take every night, usually it's a combo of benedryl and melatonin, since my primary care doctor rations out my sleep meds. Since my CPAP study I think I'm more aware of when things are happening or something because I've been waking up nightly gasping and choking/coughing the past few nights and that's not something I remember doing before.

My inital sleep study on 9/19:

The difference in the HR ranges surprised me, though I'm not sure what it means. And there is a note on my paperwork that, at the pressure of 10, there was good control of sleep related breathing, but the pressure did result in the occasional central apnea being observed.

I have my RX here as well, he prescribed CPAP 10 cmH20. I spent this week waiting for a DME to call me back and they finally did telling me they don't work with my insurance, awesome, way to waste a week. So, I found another place, that's actually closer to my home that does work with it and they will hopefully be calling me soon and getting me set up. I'm anxious to get started and get sleeping as soon as I can. I'm not sure what machine to go with, it seems like the DME I chose has a decent selection.

You need a machine with data that shows AHI and leak rate. Since they saw centrals still happening it is very very important that you have this information at your fingertips.

Walk into to your DME the same way you would into a shady second hand car dealership. Expect to fight for what you need. The billing code is the same for a dumb brick that only shows hours of use and an automatic adjusting machine with full data. Obviously their profit is higher with the dumb brick.
You want a PR system 1 with a code higher then 400 on the bottom or a RESMED S9 or 10 but not the "ESCAPE" (check the power button)

It looks to me that if you did not sleep on your back (now) you might not even qualify as having apnea, and I'd make a point of trying to side sleep instead and ask to be re-tested that way.

You seem to be missing a page from your titration study. Their should be a page that lists the pressures used, the test times, and the number of events at each pressure.

The summary pages look about the same. You lightly snore when you sleep on your back, and it restricts your airway a bit.

Considering that there were 342 minutes of sleep time of which 341 were supine, there is not much data to support that idea.

She's just trying to be helpful of course but you just made me laugh. Thank you for that.

Is this the one you were referring to?

you also want to avoid the "CPAP" as10. elite or autosets only!

I'm excited, I leave in a few minutes for my DME appointment at Airway Oxygen. I'm not sure how all this works...will I bring home a machine today? Or will it have to be ordered or something and even more waiting take place?

Julie, unfortunately, I can't really sleep very long on my side due to neck/back problems. Thanks to those for the recommendations, I wrote them down so I remember!
