Sleep Doctor in DFW, TX Area

Post by fdw » Thu Dec 04, 2014 9:28 am

Im looking for a good sleep doctor (aren't we all) in the Dallas/Fort Worth area specifically the Mid-Cities.

Can anyone recommend Dr. M. E. Mike in the Bedford/Plano offices.

I've made an appointment (mid-February 2015 new patient) with Dr. Mike and was told since my insurance doesn't cover Sleep Study's my cost would be $218.00.
I was told to bring my SD card from my machine and previous sleep study and titration reports.
If I keep this appointment would there anything else I need to bring.....questions for this doctor to get my money's worth?

Thanks

I haven't been on this board for years, just happened to be bored tonight and thought I'd check back in and happened to see your post. Dr. Margaret Mike is the name on my prescription but I couldn't give you the first idea of what she's like because I never actually met her. I had my sleep study, she reviewed the data and produced the prescription but I never once saw her. Have never had one single followup appointment. Luckily I'm bright and stubborn enough to have found this board back then and learned enough to be successful with my therapy. I'd say look elsewhere. My wife recently started on cpap and I know she likes her doctor, I'll get his name and pass it along.

Edit: Her doctor is Dr. Ryan Hayes at UT Southwestern

ZocDoc is good for finding in-plan docs in a particular area (and free). You can look at a dr.'s booking to see what times are available, but it works better to then stop right there and contact the office directly (because ZocDoc isn't very good at the scheduling part). You can also research docs to see how much sleep study background they have. I would find a Neurologist with sleep studies background or fellowship if possible; ENTs are OK, but in my experience they don't see a lot of sleep patients other than to recommend a first-time PSG study, and once you are over that hurdle you want someone who can guide your therapy as you go along.
