Eyelid Twitch and MGD

Post by kvck » Thu Dec 29, 2022 10:37 am

Hi,

I have had on and off eyelid twitching in my eyes (both of them) for the last 2 months. I tried not taking any form of caffeine and it did not work. Then, stopped taking relevant medicines (antidepressant) but it did not work too. I am always on PC or mobile screen when I am at work. Eye strain can be a cause...

So, I visited my eye doctor and explained my condition. She said my eyes are dry, 19/17 eye pressure (close to the high side) and I have grade 2 meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) and prescribed eye drops. I have been using these for almost 2 weeks but nothing changed. :?

By the way, I forgot to tell the doctor about my CPAP usage. I think there has been a correlation between CPAP usage and dry eye.

I wonder if anyone has dry eye conditions and eyelid twitches due to CPAP usage.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Some people's eyes get drier from mask leaks that blow up into their eyes. Is it possible that's happening to you?

In any event, your ophthalmologist should be your go-to person for treating your eye conditions. When you see her next, mention your CPAP usage and ask specifically about the twitches if you haven't already. Also be sure to tell her what has or hasn't changed since you started the drops. Leaks happen time to time and I noticed something about my nasal mask. It makes a little pressure on my eyes when I sleep on my side. There may be a connection with that as well.

I will for sure contact my doc about CPAP. Thanks :)

In my case, allergy is the cause.
Artificial tears are effective, and inexpensive.
Drops advertised for eliminating redness often irritate the eyes more,
as they tend to cause dryness.
