Lunesta / Zopiclone + CPAP = No REM sleep?

Post by Unkikonki » Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:49 pm

Hi everyone,

Long story short, I've been on ASV therapy for over 8 months. A couple of months ago, I caught Covid for the first time, and since then, the efficacy of ASV therapy has sharply declined to the point where I’ve spent many nights unable to fall asleep at all. This had never happened before.

I’m certain the cause is physiological, not psychological—I’m not under significant stress, and I can generally relax and unwind at bedtime without any issues.

Things got so bad that I reluctantly tried the Zopiclone pills my doctor had prescribed. They worked very well at first, and I managed to fall asleep after three nearly sleepless nights.

However, a few days later, I started experiencing issues during early-morning REM sleep. I could sleep fine for the first 5 hours, but as soon as I entered REM-dominant sleep, I’d wake up instantly and wouldn’t be able to fall back asleep. It’s hard to pinpoint what’s happening, but it feels as though the ASV air is getting trapped in my mouth.

I’ve tried adjusting various settings, from the lowest to the highest, and even tried CPAP mode, but nothing seems to help.

For now, I’m starting to taper off the Zopiclone, as I suspect it might be causing these issues.

Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Are you using SleepHQ.com or OSCAR to guide your changes in settings? If not, it is strongly recommended you do.

Zopiclone can play havoc with your heart. My pulse dropped!

I think that's an unnecessarily scarey response to his note and he'd be better off talking to his MD. Your pulse dropping (from where to what?) may have little bearing on things.

I took Zopiclone and my pulseox showed dangerous pulse levels. Next 2 night s without were just fine. I was just posting my experience. Of course one should consult a Dr.
