Oh no, Polident Strips discontinued!

Post by grandmma » Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:41 am

Disaster, guys. According to the manufacturer, Polident Strips have apparently been discontinued, at least in Australia.

I've not used them for some time, but my son is devastated. And exhausted. Can't get any so far anywhere.

Is this a WW thing, or just Aussie, anyone know?

Could be he can get off the internet, but early days yet, and he's not checked this out. He's not keen on a FF or taping, but may not have a lot of choice.

D'oh!

This seems to be a local condition.
Check out the attached link.

http://www.poligrip.com/products.aspx

I use them every night. I would not be a happy camper without them.

PS I notice this is a US customers Only info. site. You may be able to find equal Ausie site.

The GSK AU Polident product site does not show that Polident strips are sold in Oz. Call the Polident Advice Hotline 9am – 5pm weekdays AEST on 1800 661 957. Does the '1800 ' part mean toll free?

As an American, I would normally say to blame Canada, but GlaxoSmithKline is a British company.

I don't know if it's an issue in trying to find them, but "Polident" is a denture CLEANER (to my knowledge it's never come in "strips"). "Poligrip" is the adhesive.

If you are asking for one and mean the other, that could be why you aren't finding it.

UPDATE: The link Bearded One posted shows a "Polident adhesive cream" available in Australia. So maybe there isn't a distinction "down under". It still appears that Poligrip Strips are alive and well here in Rightsideupland.

Strips are used to gently glue the lips together to prevent mouth leaks. Losing treatment air out the mouth when sleeping.

It works pretty well if you can handle the taste and texture of "Poligloop".

Strips are a whole different product and adhesive. I know because I use them every night.

Unfortunately the site and the manufacturer both advise they have been discontinued.

TerryB, I'd have been the same a few months ago, and my son is now desperate - as you say, not a happy camper. He's exhausted, can't function without them! Plus, he's not keen on an FF - has tried one for a while, but he drools like Homer Simpson - drowns in an FF!!

LinkC, it's the strips my son uses, and I used. No gloop as such if they're used properly, but I imagine if other Polident products are used, that would be the case.

Would this apply from Australia? I'm not sure that toll free applies that far, but will give it a go when I'm home from work.

Marietjie, as TerryB advises, its for sealing your lips. You bend into a 'v' shape, wet your lips & place between. Close firmly for at least 5 mins. If you've wet enough but not too much, and there is practice required there, you'll find that you CAN open your lips, but it does take awareness & concentration. Easy enough to peel off in the morning, no marks, and works like a charm for....those it works for, I guess!

If they're not discontinued overseas, at least we can order them & have them sent over here if worst comes to worst! He's intending to try a chin strap, but fears he's a little too heavy a mouth-breather & drooler for that to work. He's trying to work on keeping his tongue in the correct position, but 2 years in & so far no go.

Amazon.com sells PoliGrip Strips, which appear to be the same as Polident Strips

http://www.amazon.com/PoliGrip-Comfort- ... 714&sr=8-2

The US Polident site has a page that shows where to by it from American on-line stores, Any of the sites listed on this page should be reliable (but shipping may be expensive):

Thanks Bearded_One, will check it out when I get a chance. Whatever the cost, will be worth it in the long run - he's 2 little girls and a wife he dearly loves, wants to continue "waking up alive"!

Not all of the places on that web page that I posted sell stuff mail order. Wegmans is one site that doesn't sell stuff mail-order (they are a great supermarket, though)

The CVS web page indicates that the strips are Made in Japan, I wonder if shipping from Japan would be cheaper than from the US..

Looking online, there are both "Polident Comfort Seal Strips" and "Poligrip Comfort Seal Strips".
Both are products of Glaxo SmithKline and are most likely the same.
The strips are not on http://www.polident.com or http://www.gsk.com.au, but do appear on http://www.poligrip.com.
http://www.gsk.com.au does not list any poligrip products at all.

Hi Grandmma

I intended to answer this yesterday, got busy & the thread seemed to disappear this morning.

Wondering if Wal-Mart had invaded Australia yet? If so, could they order Polident Strips for your son. That's where I got mine and after checking web sites, it was the only possibility I could think of.

We all have enough problems just keeping up with our masks, & equipment without something else going wrong.

Hoping for the best for him.

Jan
