foods that fight pain?
foods that fight pain?
greetings cpapers
I am 54 and have severe sleep apnea and have been using an auto bi-pap machine for about 10 months with success as far as lowering my AHIs.
I am overweight and have trouble loosing weight, mostly due to faltering willpower. As of the last year or so, I am experiencing pain in my ankles, and other joints, which I suspect is related to my weight (as well as general arthritis).
I realize this might seem a little off topic for some folks, but losing weight would, hopefully, not only help relieve some pain, but perhaps help with my sleep apnea.
My question is this...are there specific foods that help to fight pain? I have read the posts about the primal diet (low carb) and I have had some luck with that in losing weight (when I can stick to it). But I am wondering if consuming lots of meat may increase inflammation, which in turn leads to pain?
Does anyone have any experience with relieving pain, (lessoning inflammation), through food?
thanks
Evan

Here is one example of the many you get when you Google "anti-inflammatory diet"........ http://www.webmd.com/diet/guide/anti-in ... ood-health
Yes, that blue eyed beauty is my cat! He is a seal point, bi-color Ragdoll. I adopted him in '08 from folks who could no longer care for him. He is a joy and makes me smile each and every day.

I met with my provider at the VA a couple of weeks back and we were talking about my back pain, and she seemed to think that Vitamin D and/or Fish Oil can be effective with pain relief. Not as an anagesic but just an overall good health measure to help the body reduce it's pain. Since my back pain is not as bad as it used to be, I'd say it's probably helping.
Thinking of quitting CPAP?
No problem, here's the first thing to do when you quit:
Advanced funeral planning. When you give up CPAP, you'll probably need it.

The one thing I read several years ago was to avoid Tomatoes and other members of the deadly night shade family if you have arthritis.
While ginger is an anti inflammatory food, be careful as it also affects blood pressure.

Red meat, both beef and pork, has been shown to be bad for arthritis...

could you tell us what and how much of fish oil/ vitamin D do you take? I take one vitamin D and 2 Omega-3 a day and it doesn't seems to do big thing to my back pain. Dr. told me I was making a kind of anemia provably related to inflammation.

Slightly green banana, not so green the human can not take it.
Core of pinapple. Sugar, although it is a big joke as well as a placebo, is a pain killer and there are several reasons (like diabetes, weight gain) to avoid it.
Aspirin, if you do not have a bleeding problem, is thought to have a number of good side effects. Reduces not just pain, but swelling in joints, it is an anti-inflammatory, helps ward off colon cancer. Probably other cancers as well.

Cayenne Pepper, the capsules are better, you can find them at any Walmart on the vitamin isle, Cayenne pepper is a great anti inflammatory. Works well in Diabetes patients as well as far as sugar and insulin control. For pain in the ankle you can take the dose in the morning, trust me it lasts all day, make sure you drink plenty of water. Also for a quick pain relief take a capsule, break it open, make a paste with water and rub it on the painful joint, it will work as a topical treatment like icyhot, but better and you get to tell folks that you put cayenne pepper on your joints cause you are AWESOME. As well look up sinus buster at rite aid. It is the best sinus relief as well, will reduce inflammation and snot and clear you up with a quickness.
Also as a supplement look up Animal Flex, it will also take away a lot of joint pain.
