CPAP Therapy and Solids Elimination Changes?

Post by The Sheikh » Fri Sep 14, 2012 10:25 am

I'm curious if XPAP therapy has affected your solids elimination process - if at all?

Maybe swallowing some air, or having better O2 levels or having more energy has caused constipation, looser stools or less regularity?

After about 2 months on the hose, I feel great and have pretty much stabilized in general, but find elimination to be slightly more difficult and the stools harder than before. I never had a problem before the XPAP.

Maybe this means I need a change of diet, different liquids or whatever. I already drink at least a gallon of water daily.

Is this common and has anyone else noticed changes of this kind after starting XPAP therapy?

Tom

My wife says I'm a walking farting machine. I have noticed since I started Cpap I've got a more flatulent problem, which I control quite well when in public.

YES! I asked this earlier in June and no one responded. I use to have very loose and frequent movements, which I considered normal, until I started cpap. After about 4 weeks on cpap I noticed I was more regular and it was not loose anymore. I wondered if it had anything to do with cpap and when I asked my husband he just laughed.

I don't really understand how it works or even why. I suppose swallowing air could be part of the reason. I think that getting quality sleep could be helping our organs to function properly and not on reserve power.

I just cannot believe that breathing in air - no matter what the pressure - changes a person's "movements".

Thought I'd mention that mine haven't changed a bit... if anyone is actually interested.

It's true, my stools have been loose going back into the 80's. In fact I remember seeing a doc just to find out why, of course all tests came up negative.

When I mentioned it to my sleep doc she was rather surprised. I am convinced that when the organs can keep a supply of O2 thru the nite, they are much happier and perform better.

Well, without going into any detail...I've wondered the same since about week four on cpap.
My answer is exactly the same as 'wonderbeastlett' and 'guest'.
My husband thought I'd lost my mind when I discussed it with him.
At least I've not totally lost it.

Yeah, maybe it IS related to becoming more healthy. More solid stools are a mark of younger, healthy people.

There appears to be so many side-benefits to successful treatment of a bad apnea condition.

In just two months, I've noticed the bags under my eyes have almost disappeared and I feel a new strength as I walk.... hard to describe. I definately feel younger. It makes sense considering this body has been struggling every night to keep from suffocating and now isn't missing a single breath all night.

Successful apnea treatment really is miraculous for many people. I wish to everyone excellent results.

I'm glad it's not just my imagination. I don't know anyone in "real life" who's on cpap, so this forum is basically all I've got.
Well, how pathetic does that sound?

Anyway, there are just so many improvements in my general health. 'the sheikh' mentioned a new strength in walking,,I know exactly what you're talking about !! I'm actually taking walks now, too. Short ones, but I'll get there.
I'm taking my 3 yr. old grandson outside to play, going to the grocery store, even planning a weekend mini-vacation. No one could possibly know what mile stones those few things are to me without my telling that prior to this therapy I hadn't left my house since Thanksgiving of last year. Now that's not counting the four times my husband took off from work to take me to my doctor appts.
I just felt too bad and hurt too much to do anything that wasn't absolutely necessary. And so, so, so very tired.
So, in a nut shell, this treatment is indeed a miracle for me. And again, I want to thank everyone here for doing what you do.
