I'm a stomach sleeper and I need a pillow
I need a soft pillow that my Tap Pap can overhang and not touch the pillow. The problem I am having is that the mask is forced into the pillow I have
and putting side pressure which is uncomfortable. I thought if I could fine a regular length pillow that was shaped like a tube, just enough dept for my head but it would let my mask overhang. to
I have looked at the pillows offered by Cpap.com but they might be too hard. I get ear aches with a pillow that is too hard.
Can you all offer me some suggestions, some other options to look at?
Thank you,
Bryansong

I sleep on my stomach and us a Regenesis Buckwheat hull pillow from SleepPur. You can shape the hulls into any shape to make room for your mask

I use the Contour pillow now. It's a hard, memory-foam pillow. You mentioned that you didn't want a hard pillow and preferred a soft pillow. Before I purchased the Contour pillow, I bought the SleePAP CPAP Pillow from cpap.com. It's a soft... fluffy pillow. But it was too soft (and fluffy) for me but my daughter fell in love with it and she is not on cpap therapy. She took the pillow with her when she moved to Kansas City.

Or you can do what I did (warning - radical!.
I got a very good quality 4-5 inch high slab of memory foam to cover my mattress, then using an electric carving knife, cut out a 1' long by 3" trench in the centre, from the top downward, allowing somewhere for the mask to dip into while sleeping - I was getting a very sore neck before that, and the mask was getting knocked around too much. You can round the edges to suit.
I use the UltraMirage FF because it vents not from the elbow angle (above where the hose connects) but higher up on the mask, which means the vent holes are not blocked by bedding, which is a rather dangerous occurrence as the CO2 must be allowed to leave once we breathe air in through the machine.

What about the Sobakawa Cloud pillow? It's not regular size but it allows some movement of the beads, is soft but supportive.
I have never used any of the fancy cpap pillows but I have tried a cheap walmart memory foam and cut out a section on the side where my face could rest without pressure on mask.
May overall preference is the Regenisis buckwheat pillow because my neck needs firm support at just the right height. I move the hulls to make a nest for my mask..and nothing really ever touches the mask.
I have tried the Sobakawa Cloud...it does a good job but not quite firm enough support for my cervical spine.
With my size body most of the regular pillows are too tall and put my neck in sort of a bind. Even if I didn't wear a cpap mask they wouldn't be comfortable.

I just have a soft down pillow, old and thin, and punch a hole in it on the side.

I used to have one of those but it was so old I think my wife was disgusted by it so I threw it out. I used to wash it but that didn't help.herefishy wrote:I just have a soft down pillow, old and thin, and punch a hole in it on the side.

Pugsy, I checked out that Regenisis buckwheat pillow video on the Pur-sleep site and that looks like something I can work with. I ordered 1.
Thank you,
Thank you all for your suggestions.

Re: I'm a stomach sleeper and I need a pillow
I ordered the bigger Regenisis buckwheat pillow ($10 more) just a couple weeks ago. Mine came with two separate bags of the buckwheat hulls. At first, I only put one of the bags into the pillow and tried it out for a week. Then just this weekend I added half of the 2nd unused bag of hulls to the pillow. I think that my pillow is now perfect.bryansong wrote: Pugsy, I checked out that Regenisis buckwheat pillow video on the Pur-sleep site and that looks like something I can work with. I ordered 1.
Also if the smell of the buckwheat hulls bothers you....throw in a couple scented dryer sheets into the pillow.

Re: I'm a stomach sleeper and I need a pillow
I hope the buckwheat scent doesn't bother me, I get my air from the hose. And I couldn't use the dryer sheets I am very sensitive to dryer sheets and fabric softeners, I stay away from them.
I wish those two items were never invented, I have to avoid everyone.

Re: I'm a stomach sleeper and I need a pillow
Mine is coming on 4 years old now. So I got mine back when there was only one size which is a bit smaller. While if fits my head just fine it doesn't give me the nice perfect balance when the bed is made up.Kenwood wrote:I ordered the bigger Regenisis buckwheat pillow ($10 more) just a couple weeks ago. I have been toying with getting the larger size but just haven't done it.
The ability to add or remove the hulls is so nice. I didn't smell anything...surprise surprise..
I don't even notice the hulls movement sounds once I have them moved into position.
Not long ago the new kitty did something really, really bad on/to my buckwheat pillow so I have had to resort to a typical contour memory foam while I address that little issue...and I am definitely missing my preferred pillow.
I hope it works well for your needs. Recommending bed pillows is so hard because we all have different preferences and needs. What works for me (being a small boned woman with small shoulders) when I am on my side or stomach may not work well for someone who is larger. I like it because I can add or remove or adjust the hulls so that I have just the right height of the pillow to keep my cervical spine in a nice straight line no matter what position I choose. That's the best way for me to avoid neck headaches. When my neck gets in a bind I pay for it with morning headaches because of neck pain.bryansong wrote:

Re: I'm a stomach sleeper and I need a pillow
That's exactly what I do. (My pillow is 15 years old!) But this technique requires some balancing, with the hands under the pillow to keep the head in a certain orientation. Of course, this only works with my kind of mask, otherwise you're really sideways, not face-down.herefishy wrote:I just have a soft down pillow, old and thin, and punch a hole in it on the side.
