Stuck on Maximum Pressure

Post by bgavin » Sat Oct 02, 2021 10:02 am

REMstar Auto C-Flex CPAP (2006)

I have entered Setup and tested all sorts of configurations to reduce pressure.
Nothing changes.
CPAP, APAP, CFLEX... all stuck at maximum blower pressure.

This is causing me dry mouth from mask leaks and too much pressure.
I did fine for 15 years with nasal mask.
The last six months has been awful dry mouth.
Been through FFM, etc, etc.

I think the machine is broken and stuck on full pressure.
I hate to discard it, if it can be opened and repaired.

Thoughts?

Your machine is pretty old! It seems plausible that it is not working right.

Did you find the settings for maximum pressure (along with the ones you specifically mentioned)?

I'm hoping some other forum members can help with the question about repairs.

Did you change the minimum pressure to something lower than 20.0? (Yeah, my name is Captain Obvious.)

A 15-year old machine?? You are long overdue a new machine. ResMed AutoSet.

Yes, the machine is 15 years old.
Yes, I have been all through all the settings.
Yes, I have experimented with CPAP only at minimum pressure, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, etc,
Yes, I have the chops and tools to work on this sort of equipment.

I cannot find a service manual for this machine (yet).
Before I throw it out, I will crack it open and put a voltage drop across the blower motor to reduce the pressure.

I'm just curious if anybody else has experienced the same problem.
Power outages in my area are chronic, and I suspect something in the processor got fried from a sudden power loss.

Send Wulfman a private message. He is familiar with your machine and might have the service manual for it.
He has a lot of manuals saved.

Make plans for getting a new machine....just in case because sometimes things can't be repaired or the parts needed to repair something are no longer available.

Probably, but they are all dead by now.

Have you unplugged it for a few minutes, to reset it?

Just throwing it out there, this is obvious to many, but not everyone. And it's not in the list of things you've tried. Even if you do bush-fix it, i'd still be shopping for a replacement.

Pugsy, thanks for the referral. PM sent.

The machine has been reset numerous times with power outages over the years.
This bug developed about 6 months back.
I have it on a UPS now, but probably too little and too late for that.

As noted above, I'm old-school, so I'm always willing to try repairs before discarding it.

Keeping a possible replacement in mind, a good time to consider switching brands.
(Just my totally prejudiced point of view.) 8)

I am clueless about the various brands.
Replacement is a cash purchase, no insurance.

The service manual shows part numbers for all the components.
Unless they are Unobtanium, my unit can be repaired.

ResMed AutoSet for sure. When you start wanting to make a purchase, forum members can help you with model selection and where to make cash purchase. Supply throughout the market is restricted due to Philips recall - https://www.usa.philips.com/healthcare/ ... src-update

The link CG gave you (which I also sent you) is your best possible source for spare parts or service for that machine.
You might also check the firmware version number.......one of the first numbers visible in the LCD when you first power it up.......will be either 2.5, 2.6, 2.7 or 2.8. (I managed to acquire one or more of each version.)
