Strep Throat

Post by keaaulady_03 » Sun Mar 11, 2018 5:16 pm

I have had 3 strep throat infections within a year. I sanitize my tubing and nasal pillow with 1/2 & 1/2 distilled vinegar and water. Has anyone any information on the Soclean c-pap cleaner. I don't know what else to do. I replace my tubing every 3 months and my filter and nasal pillow twice a month. Please help...thank you very much. keaaulady_03

Are you around children often?

How often do you replace your toothbrush?

I am not around children very often, and I change my tooth brush every 2 months. I also change my toothbrush after I finish my antibiotics for the strep throat.

I was reading about the Lumin CPAP mask & accessories cleaner. Can you clean the hoses in this machine too? I mentions the mask and the water chamber, but I don't see anything about the hoses.

Not many forum members here are fans of the SoClean device.

The bacteria that causes strep is easily killed with soap and water from inanimate objects.
Highly unlikely that you are reinfecting yourself from your cpap equipment even if you didn't replace your equipment so often.
With replacing everything so often...darn near impossible.

Maybe you should be seeing your doctor and figuring out if the strep is resistant to whatever antibiotics you took or if there's a pocket of the bacteria in your tonsils or something in your body.

I would be more likely to try the Lumin and use the UV killing that it promotes if I wanted to nuke my equipment.

I don't know about the hose...let me go check it out.

Every time I have had the strep, I have been put on a different antibiotic. It can't be because of my tonsils because I had them removed as a child. Thank you for looking into the Lumin for me. I may buy it if the hoses can be cleaned in it.

I don't see anyway for the 6 ft hose to fit inside that tray of the Lumin. It does not appear large enough to accommodate a 6 ft hose.
I see a P10 included and the short hose that goes with the frame on the P10 mask..
To be honest though...that P10 hose would be all that would maybe even remotely need to be nuked.

The chances of contaminating the long hose from the mask and short hose that nasal pillow masks use...slim and none.
Those little bugs don't take a hike.

FWIW...I used to work with a clinic that saw patients with repeated strep infections and we didn't know who or what to blame for reinfection.

Have you ever had a culture done after the antibiotics are completed to make sure that the bacteria was really killed off?

soclean is designed to bilk gullible people out of their hard earned money.

The *ONLY* way that you're getting strep from your cpap, is if someone that *has strep* is contaminating it.

Who doesn't like you?

You can't clean anything with a So No Clean or the Lumin, they don't clean anything, you must clean everything before or after you use them, maybe be better both ways Jim

I once had a sore throat and suspected it was strep. They did one of those quick in office tests that came back negative, but I made sure they did an actual culture and that came back positive. How are they determining this is strep? I am wondering if similar test also come back false positive from time to time? But in any case, when the nurse went to swab me for the culture, I asked her for the swab and did it myself since I wanted to be sure to cover a spot that was raging infected. Sounds to me they should be doing some antibiotic resistance tests on your culture.

A pet can be a carrier! Just something to consider if you have one or come in contact with regularly.
