Apex XT Fit Travel Machine
Apex XT Fit Travel Machine
Hi everyone,
Just wanted to share my recently acquired travel machine. It's an APEX XT Fit. It received a lot of good reviews in several cpap online stores. Can't wait to try it when travelling. I'll post a review when I get to use it. My home machine is a newly purchased Philips Respironics REMSTAR 560 with bluetooth. Thanks to the valuable advise I got here, I opted for the Remstar as my main machine.
If anyone has any info on how to access the clinician setup, please do share. I think the vendor forgot to turn on ramp option. It starts at 7cm at once which is my standard (or at least doctor prescribed) pressure.
I'll also try calling the vendor when I get the time.
Here it is:

Re: Apex XT Fit Travel Machine
Go here and request the clinical manual for your machine. It should explain all the ins and outs and how tos of the machine's menus.
http://www.apneaboard.com/adjust-cpap-p ... tup-manual
While the "travel" part of the model name isn't listed I bet this model's manual will cover everything
Apex XT Fit CPAP
scroll down to near the bottom of the page for instructions on how to request manuals via email.

I just posted this link a few days ago. It's a direct download for the clinical manual.

Did you get the humidifier setup with yours?egzbuen wrote:Thanks Pugsy and Wulfman. Will read up a little later after my morning schedule.

Let me/us know how it is....."noise-wise". I've read were some of the smaller machines were a little on the noisy side.
That machine is almost identical to the Zzz PAP machine that was/is on the market awhile back. I think the instructions are the same, too.

Re: Apex XT Fit Travel Machine
Oh I'm sorry buddy. I didn't get the humidifier. I specifically bought this for its size/small footprint which would most likely come in handy during travel. Adding the humidifier would most likely double it's size.Wulfman... wrote:Did you get the humidifier setup with yours?egzbuen wrote:Thanks Pugsy and Wulfman. But, your right, I've read reviews about a minor whistling sound during exhale. Did that apply only to those using humidifiers?

Re: Apex XT Fit Travel Machine
I don't recall that any of those "complaints" were regarding the Apex machines. And, I don't know whether those people were using the humidifier units either.egzbuen wrote:Oh I'm sorry buddy. However, I believe I HAVE heard that the Apex machines were relatively quiet.
So, I'd still be interested in hearing how your experiences are with the machine you got......HH or not. That way, I'll make mental notes if anyone else asks.
Thanks,

Re: Apex XT Fit Travel Machine
I would suggest trying it out at home. The last thing you want on a trip is to find out that something needs to be adjusted, the sound is wrong, you can't sleep without a humidifier, etc. Get any troubleshooting and adjustments done at home. Try it out when you don't have a big day the next day.

Who would have thought it would be this challenging to sleep and breathe at the same time?
Re: Apex XT Fit Travel Machine
Makes a lot of sense guys. Thanks for the heads up. Indeed, would have to give it a go at home before i even embark in using it for the first time out of town/country.
Will do try this machine on a night where the next is not a big day.
Cheers.

I'll be travelling Thursday afternoon for an out of town court hearing on Friday.
It will be the first time I'll be using this machine.
I'll post a short review once done.

Re: Apex XT Fit Travel Machine
My supposed out of town travel the other time didn't push through, but last night had I to travel to attend to an out of town court hearing. Brought along this Apex travel machine for the first time.
Since I'm comfy already with my Respironics Wisp mask (my nightly mask), I brought it together with its hose and left behind the Apex wizard mask and it's own hose.
Here are my thoughts:
1. Footprint of the unit is fantastic! Very small, portable and doesn't occupy so much space of your night table. It doesn't have any power adapter. Power cord directly connects to the machine. So it's light and easy to carry. Came with a travel bag which looks like a camera bag.
2. Tinkering with the menu was fairly easy and straightforward. A few searches at the apnea board taught me how to enter the clinician setup to change the pressure settings, among others.
3. Quietness of the machine was kinda weird. True to most of the reviews I've read, it had a very faint whirling sound coming from the machine when I set it up with Max pressure at 7cm to 8cm. It was not troubling or too bothersome but, it was there. When I bumped it up to 11cm to 13cm, the whirling sound from the machine disappeared but a faint whistling sound can be heard from the hose area. I tried tinkering with the pressures and laid down for a good 30 to 45 minutes trying several different pressures and settings. I also turned of ramp.
4. Actual use - I had a hard time admittedly. At 7cm, I had a hard time inhaling and exhaling. Bumped it up to 11 up, then 12cm to 13cm and inhaling brcame a lot easier but exhaling was soo very hard. I felt like choking. It was as if the air wasn't going out of the mask too well or quick enough. In fact, I can actually feel the cushion swelling up.
A. Was it because I used the wisp mask and/or resprionics hose, and not the Apex wizard mask?
B. This is not an auto and no exhale pressure relief, would this be the reason?
C. Would it be possible that the whirling and whistling sound was due to the non use of the Apex mask and hose?

I have the hard copy of that manual. It came with my unit. Sadly, it doesn't say anything about how to access the clinician setup. It's simply the users manual if I am not mistaken. Thus, had to do a quick research. But, no worries.
Anyway, in case anyone would need it, it's simply:
1. Use menu button to go to the setting you want to change
2. Press the up and down button simultaneously and do not let go
3. Press the menu button until the letters and/or numbers on the screen blink
4. Now use the arrows to adjust
5. Click meno button again once done

If you have nothing nice to say, why don't you just F'in keep quiet.
The only reason for this is every night is important to me so I can't take one night off from my main machine. Haven't encountered a night where the next one would not be a big day for me. I would rather test it for one night when I don't have my main machine. Just had to make sure before leaving that it power on and is working.
Why do we have to be sarcastic here almost all the time?
It's people like you that makes newbies not wanna share any here.
