Re: Low AHI feels worse
Hey, who you calling a strange duck, pal?!
Some, not all, but a few, see a zero and think 'then why don't I feel better?' and then later see a five and think 'hey, but I feel great!' That can lead to the perception that high numbers feel better and low numbers feel worse. But yeah, as you say, others (perhaps most daily peekers) see a zero and think 'YES, that means I am about to have a perfect day! Weeeeee!'
It is all subjective anyway, based on unfounded expectations, so anything a troubleshooter can do to downplay one night's data or play around with timing of comparisons may help. Or not.

The people who confuse "entomology" and "etymology" really bug me beyond words.

Hang Fire, I can guarantee you that you will still not figure it out. Things like Reiki, ESMR video before bed, deep meditation, trialing medications that act on damping down the CNS response, etc.

Re: Low AHI feels worse
Do not look at your AHI, then make a note in your journal how you feel you slept and how you felt during the day.
*Then* write down the AHI.
Humans are pattern seekers, but sometimes we see (or even create) patterns that are not there.

Re: Low AHI feels worse
Lots of good comments in the thread. My AHI is just about always under 2 and usually under 1. Most of my events are central apneas, and in many cases a higher AHI just means that a couple of times I paused between breaths for 11 seconds rather than 9.
All that said, my worst days are after the nights when I'm awake the longest, and when I'm awake, I don't have events. For me, this doesn't translate into a clear pattern like the one the OP is asking about, but maybe it does for the OP.

Thanks for your input, Miss Emerita. No clear pattern regarding events for me either.

Haha. I misread hers. No clear pattern regarding type of breathing events when AHI is under 1.

Life - we mostly fumble our way thru and hopefully with more good days than bad, and maybe that's as good as it gets - I spend more time worrying about animals (in nature not on your bed) with no vets or meds or anything... we're the lucky ones!
