Well, after my unsettling experience earlier this week (see "am I a mouth breather"), I decided I'd try some keeping my mouth shut alternatives and see how they affect my sleep results.
Last night was experiment #1 - poli grip strips. Whoever thought this idea up must be genius! It worked very well. Not invasive. After my lips were glued shut I didn't even notice it was there.
My results: leak 0.06 (in the normal range for me)
pressure 11 (also right average for me)
AHI 4.0 (that's high - my average is usually in the 1.4 range)
I still felt thirsty this morning (usual for me since cpap) which is one thing I thought I'd notice different, if I was truly a mouth breather. Unfortunately I don't have anyone who can watch me sleep.
So, I'll try it for a week or so and see if it affects how I feel.
Thanks, other hoseheads! Your ideas are wonderful.

Are these applied to the lips? I just bought some.

Hi Bob-
Yes, wet your lips with tap water, then run the strip thru the water, then apply between lips. Close mouth and let set...do not try to open mouth until well set. Once set, you can still open your mouth, if you need to. But once your mouth has opened, you have broken the seal, and you must remove and apply a new strip.
Remember about the danger of sealing your mouth shut. THere is always the risk of aspiration. If your stomach feels unsettled, or if you have recently eaten, it is safer to omit that night. I usually finish dinner around 8pm and then apply the strip around 1030-11pm.
Good Luck,
Barb

Teach, I use the Kendals Tender Skin Tape. I have sensitive skin and have used this tape nightly for months, with no problems.
