S11 vs S10
S11 vs S10
I currently have a ResMED S10 for her, set to use the regular algorithm, not the for her.
I am eligible for a new CPAP so I wanted to "upgrade" as mine is a bit beat up... nothing major, but as I've met my deductible and it will cost me zero to get a new one, might as well.
I tried the S11 and used it overnight. I actually had difficulty falling asleep at one point due to the noise. It's not super loud, but louder than my S10 for Her.
I don't see any other major benefit to me of the S11, am i missing something?
I'm thinking of getting a new S10 instead (it's not too late to replace). I would prefer a new For Her model but they don't carry it. Since i'm not using the For Her algo, I'm thinking I'll just go with the regular S10 model.
Any thoughts on the difference between S10/S11 and which one I should get?
Thanks!

Re: S11 vs S10
Not that I can see since you don't need or want the for Her mode that is available on the AirSense 11 models.
You will likely get wide range of opinions with this question. I will let the members who have those strong opinions explain their thoughts.
I have zero personal experience with the AS 11 models so I can't help.
It's the way of life for all cpap related stuff....some haters and some lovers to both models.
Also bear in mind that with all new models there are haters and lovers but we learn to adjust to what we used to hate.

Re: S11 vs S10
thanks for the quick reply. have you ever thought about working for one of these companies? i can't imagine a more qualified person!
Re: S11 vs S10
No.
I have zero desire to work for any of them. I lost all confidence in Respironics with the recall and I don't really like ResMed's business practices but they do make a damn fine product. While I have been known to cut off my nose to spite my face I haven't done it with my OSA therapy. I buy ResMed but I hold my nose when I do it.
Besides...I will be 72 next month. The only person I want to work for now is myself.

Re: S11 vs S10
I'm an 11 hater here... lots of different reasons... more keep popping up as time goes on. Love both my 10's, taken them apart, cleaned/repaired/rejuvenated my old one, served me a good 22,000 hours and now with a new motor it's good for another 22khours.
Since the 11 came out the 10's have been on sale... especially the ones without the modem, I think ResMed saves money not having to pay the phone bills! You can get a brand new machine for 449USD from our sponsor cpap dot com... you might even find the same deal including Climateline in places. For me this is less than a copay with deductible... if someone else is buying try to get an Aircurve 10 vAuto bi-level.
Latest news on the 11 (I started a thread on this) is heater and hose connection problems... which tie into my disappointment about the water tub and hose... why change a good thing? To make stuff cheaper! The 11 machines have a smaller motor in them, this is the same motor in the AirMini travel machine... smaller cheaper lighter. CPAP machines should weigh enough to stay on the bedstand! The profile of the AS11 is tippier, and since the hose has to fold over the unit (no right angle!) you tend to tip it a lot.
There is a firmware update coming out to fix the heater thing supposedly... another reason to not get an 11, built-in modem that cannot be physically removed unlike the 10. How do you feel about firmware updates on your medical device? I don't like them unless I'm the one doing them. There's a new Self-Diagnostic that the machine runs by default... it will turn on by itself and measure its noise, ostensibly to compare over the lifetime of the device. This means... a built-in mic! Connected to a cellphone by your bed. Those with foil hat tendencies will beware of Big CPAP getting your data or spying on your hose sex.
One plus I've heard is the touchscreen... I'm a professional touch-screen programmer with over a decade in the industry and I can tell you from the heart that they suck. It is quiet... if you need to change a setting in the middle of the night and there's a sleeping person nearby, it is quiet. I prefer buttons myself... just today I heard from a friend that had to let her iPhone battery die so she could reboot the damn thing, it takes button pushes *and* a swipe to turn it off, guess which part had locked up? The touch, of course.
The 11 has a bunch of foam in it... sound-deadener... had to be put there to quiet the smaller whinier motor. It's not the bad Philips foam, but still... foam.... for noise.
I could go on. Get a 10 before they're all snapped up... get an Aircurve 10 if they let you.

Have you seen Nick's video showing an interview with the CEO? Such a pig. They got fined for business practices of course... 34million? I forget.

The ResMed 10s have a bigger motor, and I've heard that the 11s are more noisy. I think the 10s wind hands down.

Sleeplay has the 10 Elite (non-APAP) on sale for 299USD! Coupon BESTPRICE. Supposedly it has the 4G modem in it. Could not pass this up, on the way... now I own three 10's. I'll report back what firmware it can run.

Re: S11 vs S10
Just to add another point of view, I rather like my new S11. Functionally, I find no discernable difference. Whatever differences there are in motor power, sound, weight, etc. are meaningless to me. I slightly prefer the new look. The only real improvement for me is that I travel frequently, and I find the the shape fits into my suitcase more easily, mostly due to the absence of that knob, which I always worried about breaking. I also find it a tiny bit easier to remember how to get to the grown-up control panel so I can change pressure settings, for example, but that doesn't come up often. I would not pay extra out of my own pocket for these things, but I needed a new unit and the deductible is the same. Some issues other people have noted don't matter much to me because I don't humidify and I'm less and less worried about the possibility of privacy breaches with each passing year.
I posted a couple of weeks ago about how the S11 was giving me lower average pressure with no difference in AHI, but eventually I concluded that this was because the old S10 was failing subtly.

Re: S11 vs S10
I have been using the Resmed s10 auto since it came out (I have two of them).
Recently for some unknown reason my sleep quality deteriorated for reasons even my sleep tech can't figure (the logs are showing everything is fine with both machines).
I bit the bullet and bought a lowenstein prisma 20a and the improvement in quality is astounding. You might want to consider adding this one to the list to try out if they're available in your area. The construction fo the Prisma is really typical german engineering (pump can handle pressures up to 50 - but is locked down to max out at 20, so the pump is only evere really cruising).
The bigger water tank is a big bonus too. Refilling the water tank is a bit clumsy ( no hinged lid, basically break tank apart with clips), but that's the only part of it I would consider is a negative.

Re: S11 vs S10
I had the 10 briefly and now have the 11. I did not notice any difference in sound. I like the touch screen on the 11 much better. I thought the knob was confusing. I've had no problems with the 11 so far. Knocking wood! I didn't actually choose the 11. My doctor sent the script in and the DME sent the 11 to me without asking me what I wanted.
