Finally got my "Swift" (some reflections)

Post by 53now » Wed Nov 10, 2004 12:11 pm

Well......the much publicized "SWIFT" arrived at my door step last night. I must admit I acted like a child opening "that special" gift. I've tried sooooo many masks in 5 years, I am beginning to think I have a very unusual shaped head because I seem to have problems with most all headgear setups. So, after fiddling with it for a few minutes (watching the wonderful CD that comes with the setup...... also has a "snazzy carrying case") I hooked everything up as prescribed in the instructions and then started the "test run". My first thought was . "why is this plastic buckle right in the middle of the back of my neck ?? hummmmm After messing with it for 30 minutes. I removed the buckle and just taped the smooth edges together. Ahhhhh so much better. Also had a few issues with choosing "Med or Large" pillows. Decided on Med and later that night it was off to bed. No real problems.....The mask went on, adjusted everything (very easy) then turned on the "Wind Turbine" and went to sleep. Woke up 5 hours later with a headache and a snuffy nose. Not sure what the deal is BUT I will give it a few more nights and hope for the best. So far I am impressed with the setup. I'm a back sleeper so there weren't any roll-over issues here. First impression is that it is a good mask. It just seems to me that any mask that has inhale and exhale ports so close together would have issues with regards to optimum therapy. ANY thoughts on this ???
thanks
Rich

Hi 53,

Nice thorough review of your first experience with the Swift! Will be interested in how it does for you as you continue to try it and tweak it. That sounded like a good "fix" for getting rid of the buckle at the back.

I still have mixed feelings (but mostly good) about my Swift. Most of the time I like it very well, but then I'll turn in a way that makes it sound even more noisy (even without the exhaust hitting anything) or hit a new position that kinda makes the cylinder shove one of the nasal pillows too much against one nostril. For the most part, however, it's very comfortable. Comfortable enough for me to keep using occasionally, just for a change. If I slept on my back instead of being a 100% side sleeper, the Swift would be my choice almost all the time, despite it making more sound than my Breeze.

I know what you mean by being like a child opening a present. heheh Sure is nice when that expensive present to youself actually works well! I guess it's a good thing that there are bad, uncomfortable masks ("bad", depending on the individual trying to wear it, of course) so that we can really appreciate a good one - considering that if we had our druthers, we'dl rather be sleeping with no mask on, period.
