Question about reputable online pulse oximeter dealers

Post by MrGrumpy » Fri Mar 21, 2008 12:20 am

Hi,

I want to buy a Spo 7500 wrist type pulse oximeter with memory and software so that I can periodically verify that my nocturnal oxygen levels are not desaturating. I would go through my local DME to get it, but they recently told me they only deal in Nonin and Respironics brand pulse oximeters and they couldnt get me a Spo.

That leads me to Internet sources. I dont have a problem ordering stuff online, Ive done it tons of times in the past. But this is a lot of money Im shelling out and I dont know any of these online people (except for CPAP.com and one other who dont sell oximeters). This leads me to this website.

What are the most reputable online dealers for pulse oximeters, in your opinion? I already tried ordering a Spo from one online dealer and it didnt come in when they said it would, so I cancelled it immediately.

Where should I go to get a Spo with no hassles?

Eric

Hello & Welcome, MrGrumpy! Glad you found this forum--SO much useful info and SO many helpful people here!

Yep, I hear from all that TurnerMedical.com is the most reputable dealer for the SPO7500. I got mine from med1online.com, and I was fortunate that I had no issues with them (even got it for $250 due to a mistake on their website!), but, as you might have read on this forum, many had encountered issues with that company.

My experance with Med1online was the same as Rip's. I did not have any problems but I know many did but mine was bought after the problem was taken care of. I have not bought any thing from Turner Medical but others have said they were good to deal with. One note Med1online has posted they will give the people on this board a discount code (10% I think) should be posted next week if I remember right.

I got mine from Med1. I'm not sure that many people had problems with med1 or if a few people were just more vocal about their own specific issues. Regardless, Med1 stepped up to the plate with honoring a MAJOR price reduction, a screw up on their part, but they still honored it. In fact, they even offered up even more units to fix that incident. Some were lucky and grabbed up a unit at the reduced price, others didn't.

I also had a great experience with Med1online and would buy from them again.

I really appreciate the replies. Turner Medical sounds like the most reliable and their website seems the best. For example, when they were out of stock recently, they put "backordered until" at the Spo 7500 section of their site. At least they communicate up front with prospective customers by doing stuff like that. I really want a pulse oximeter with memory, but there aint no way Im shelling out the over $1000 price tag that Nonin wants for their wrist oximeter with memory and software.

I already have a Spo spotchecker oximeter, bought it at REI. They sell them for mountain climbers. The quality is fine.

I think the Nonin brand oximeters are way inflated. I hope companies like Spo force them to bring their prices down.

You're a really interesting fellow, BTW. Your Rip Van Winkle avatars are neat! Where do you get them from? Thanks for the welcome.

BTW, does anyone here know if the software will work with Microsoft Vista? Its no biggie if it doesnt, I have access to Windows XP as well. But I know sometimes, Windows XP software will still load onto Vista OS.

Grump..........

I checked my documentation....and it says the SPO 7500 software works with Windows 2000 or XP. My unit was purchased just before 9/1/07 and
the software is probably updated to work on Vista by now.

Give Turner a call......they're nice people and they'll give you a straight answer about compatability with Vista.

And BTW..........you're smart in avoiding Med1. Some of us found them to be OK......and others had a horrible experience. Viewing events from the sidelines as I did, my opinion is that Med1 is to be avoided.

I had no difficulty installing and running the SpO7500 software on Vista. (vitascore/vitabase)
