Sleep Deprived & Gritting Teeth

Post by Judith88 » Wed Nov 17, 2004 9:14 am

I have had my CPAP for almost a month, and right now I am trying out my second mask. I am also trying to use 'moleskin' on the bridge of my nose to reduce soreness.

I had noticed that when I go to sleep I grit my teeth. I am also so much more tired due to lack of sleep, which has caused even more gritting. In the last week, two fillings have fallen out due to this problem. Has anyone else ever heard of such a thing.

I also have headaches due to lack of sleep, which then causes a greater headache when I put my mask on.

This is very frustrating, and I am looking forward to the time that I can encourage newcomers, by saying and meaning, 'it will get better!'

Hi Judith,

Looking back through your previous posts, I believe your first mask was a Fisher & Paykel 407 nasal mask, right? Was it the one that made your nose sore?

What is the name of the mask you're trying now?

Since I am at work, I do not have it here. It is a nose mask, that the tubing goes up and over my head. It is a very light weight mask.

There is no plastic bar on the forehead like the other one.

It is funny that the air escape is on the bottom of the mask, and my hands get cold.

I clench my teeth in my sleep and since CPAP I clench harder - I guess subconciously to make sure I don't get mouth leaks. I just chipped a corner off a crown. I got a night guard a week ago to protect my teeth.

I am going to the dentist tomorrow to have the fillings put in. I will ask him.

Judith88,

I've worn a night guard for a number of years.
I could not imagine being without mine. Especialy now that I need to keep my mouth closed.

Clenching your teeth can also cause headaches.

Definately talk to you dentist.
Sincerely,
