Lowering Pressure on Respironics SleepEasy
Lowering Pressure on Respironics SleepEasy
Can someone tell me how to turn the pressure down a notch or two on the Respironics SleepEasy? Despite all my efforts with various masks, that level of pressure is still causing leaks. I have tried a nasal mask but hate the mouth-taping routine that requires, at least for me. I'd like to try my full face-mask at 12 or 13 and see if that helps.
I'm waking up every 90 minutes or so as it is. Slightly less pressure that let's me get a full night's sleep sounds like a better plan to me.

Re: Lowering Pressure on Respironics SleepEasy
Well, most machines use a combination of pressing two buttons to get into the setup. If it were me, I'd start with either the two buttons on the right side of the display or the two buttons under the display while plugging in the machine. You may need to hold the buttons down for about 5 seconds and there will be some "stuff" displayed in the LCD while it's going into Setup mode. When you figure out which two buttons are needed to enter the Setup, you'll probably use the other two to increment or decrement the values in each setting category. Then when you're done, press the ON/OFF button to exit the Setup.

Re: Lowering Pressure on Respironics SleepEasy
My max pressure is only 12.5, but was getting leaks with every FFM I tried. Started with a Quattro, loved it
for the first two months, then it started leaking and nothing I tried helped. Went to my DME to get a new seal
and was told I had to get a complete mask. Tried the FkexiFit 432, I really like the mask, but even the large was
a bit too small for my face and it leaked. Took it back and got a Comfortfull 2, leaked like the Titanic. While I
was at the DME the first time I mentioned I would like to try a Hybrid. On the way out the R/T said I found a Mirage
Liberty that has been opened, only has the large mouth cushion and small and large nasal pillows but you can have it
if you want to try it. I used a Mirage Swift when I was first on cpap and couldn't stand it, so it was a week or so
before I tried the Liberty. That was a week of sleepless nights that didn't need to have happened. Finally tried the Liberty
and slept through the night. Woke the next morning feeling good for the first time in a long time. My nose was a bit sore
from the nasal cushions, got some Lansinoh for that and now I use the Liberty every night. No leaks and don't have to
over tighten the straps. Need to get the medium nasal cushions, but am sleeping better than I have in years. It may be that you would benefit from reducing the pressure a little, if so do it in small increments. Sorry I don't know how to access
the setup menu for your machine, just thought I would pass along what cured the leaking problem for me. Hope you find
the right combination and start to enjoy a restful nights sleep.

Re: Lowering Pressure on Respironics SleepEasy
Thanks for the counsel.
As to accessing the pressure adjustment, by pressing and holding the ramp button and the minus button while plugging in the unit, I get to what appears to be the setup menu (the digits 88:88.8 cm/H20 and various icons). However, I can't figure out how to access the settings. Pushing the various buttons changes nothing with the exception of the minus button. When I press that, I get a zero. I continue to get a zero when I press that button while pressing any other button takes me back to the setup menu.
Any ideas on how to access the setup menu once it appears (if that's what I'm seeing)?
As to trying the Hybrid or the Liberty, that's an option I suppose but I don't mind the full face mask and believe mine might work fine at a lower pressure. (I have also tried a nasal mask and chin strap but hate having to tape my mouth). The night of my sleep study when my first mask was fitted, I slept great for 5 or 6 hours. Then the technician woke me up because he had increased the pressure due to a couple of apnea events late in the study. After he increased the pressure, neither he nor I got the mask to stop leaking and I never went back to sleep.
I believe I'd be far better off with 5 or 6 hours of good sleep without leaks than 7 or 8 fitful hours due to mask leaks.
Thanks for any help offered.

Still Need Help Adjusting Pressure on SleepEasy
Can anyone direct me to the Clinician's manual or coach me on adjusting the setting on the Respironics SleepEasy.
So far, I don't have the info I need despite efforts to help for which I'm grateful.

Re: Lowering Pressure on Respironics SleepEasy
I just finally found and downloaded the User's Manual.....which identifies the buttons.
The + and - buttons are considered the "user" buttons.
On the other Respironics machines, to enter the Setup, you push the two "User" buttons down as you plug in the machine. (hold them down for about 5 seconds and you should hear some beeps)
Then.....you navigate through the categories by pressing the "User" buttons.
When you get to a category and can see the settings, you can adjust the settings by using the "Humidifier" and "Ramp" buttons (to go up or down in the selection).
After you've made a change, go back to the "User" buttons and select the next category.
When you've gotten through all the categories or made all the changes you're going to make, press the "On/Off" button to exit the Setup.

Hey Den, that's a great way of attacking the problem - Let see if I got it right:
We have 4 phases to the setup:
You start with an unplugged machine:

Re: Lowering Pressure on Respironics SleepEasy
Yeah.....that's essentially the way the Legacy models are programmed. (and I think to some degree the M Series, too.)ozij wrote:Hey Den, that's a great way of attacking the problem - Let see if I got it right:

No wonder I keep thinking of my old Canon BJ200... or some those Okidata dot matrix printers, you know, from the days when manuals came on paper.... "Press the line feed and form feed button simultaneoulsy while plugging machine in"...
- Enter setup: Press both user buttons and plug machine in.
- Navigation between menus: Use the user buttons to move through menus

Hopefully, that'll work for the SleepEasy machine, too.
These things are lots easier to program than some of the old dot matrix printers and most laser printers, too. You just need to know which buttons do what.

Re: Lowering Pressure on Respironics SleepEasy
Den,
Thanks so much for the advice on accessing the pressure settings on the Respironics SleepEasy. When pressing the plus and minus buttons simultaneously--while plugging in the machine--the LCD shows the pressure setting along with an icon of a open padlock. There is no beep but one can then adjust the settings.
To move between options, one presses the ramp buttons and adjusts the increment with the plus and minus buttons.
I really appreciate the help and hope other SleepEasy users will find this post and learn how to tweak their machine. From extensive googling of this issue, I can tell you the information on doing so is not readily available on the internet.
