I wake up because I use my XPAP, and use the software to make sure it works, with using it I would be long dead! Jim

That's the same reason I take handfuls of med's daily, i've been told us old White Men are dying off, and my vote is needed in 4 more years, it's going to be tough, but i'm trying to hang on.

Hello,
I have been on Cpap for a year now...I cannot even imagine sleeping through the nite with no wake ups...not even on my best nites.
If there are people on this forum that can acutally say they have no wake-ups at nite...then please let me know how you do it. I probably wake up at least 5 times a nite and generally go right back to sleep. I have tried all the things that I need to do to get a good nites sleep but still have the wake=ups. I think it is someting I will always deal with. I feel pretty rested during the day and seem to be doing well on my cpap for the most part...I would like to do better with it but guess this is the best I will get. I know everyone is different and some people require more or less sleep than others so its a person to person thing with the wake ups at nite. Hope you can find some ways to better your sleep.
Bren
Not sure exactly how this blog works, but going to try to reply. I have been dealing with waking up about every hour since I started the CPAP (DreamStation) about a month ago. My doctor has tried Trazadone and Melatonin to help. The Trazadone gave me some relief the first half of the night. The melatonin didn't do anything. I am now using antihistamines out of desperation until I can see the doctor again. She mentioned gabapentin, saying many of her patients use this drug, but I am not particular interested in started that long term. If you read about antihistamines, it's not a good idea to use them long term. They can make you groggy in the morning and they lose their effectiveness after a time. Some say as little as two weeks. I will alternate between 25mg and 1/2 pill or about 12.5mg. And maybe skip a night. I have read from others that there is speculation our bodies were use to being on guard at night to keep us alive. Maybe it still responding with all the stimulation going on in the back of our throats. If anyone else has any answers or suggestions PLEASE respond to this conversation. Amy

I think you would be better off to start a new thread. Many people will not bother to look at seven year old threads that have been resurrected. Sorry I can't be any help to you. I usually wake up once at the most.

I have been using a Dream Station Cpap with a Airfit 30 mask since December last year. I wake up at lest 4-6 times a night but go right back to sleep.

Are you asking for help, or just commenting? We can likely help, but would need some info and it would be best if you start your own thread... this one's old and new posts could be confusing if people respond to them vs yours. What machine do you use (model and mode, not just brand name), mask, ? meds, pressure settings, etc. etc. You shouldn't be waking up all night and that's something usually easy to fix for most.

Mainly just responding. I don't see a need for a new thread. I use a Philips Dream station with a Airfit F30 mask, my machine varies from 8-12. Most nights I wake up after most rem sleep sessions but go right back to sleep. I've had very few nights my AHI is under 2 digits.

IMO you do need a new thread. AHI should be solidly under 5 for CPAP to be considered successful.

Start a new thread to get advice on lowering your AHI.

AHI should be under *TWO* to be considered successful.

Why do I wake up?
After hours without food--I get a rumbly in my tumbly.

I try to wake up at least as often as I fall asleep.

Me to.
Some nights I get bonus wakeups tho.
Guess just my brain telling me I'm still here.
