I think you have to consider that the situation with BinLaden was without precedent. When a country declares and perpetrates war on us, its leaders are fair game for violent attack. That's not political assassination, it's warfare.
However, no individual has ever declared war on a country. BinLaden declared war on the US and perpetrated an act that, if carried out by a state, would be an act of war. He also declared that he intended to attack us with WMD. His subsequent, violent death could be considered warfare, not political assassination. However, there's no precedent for how current laws apply in this case.

OK, I will think of you as liberal-in-denial.idamtnboy wrote:Oh, by the way So Well, please don't lump me in with the liberal crowd. I prefer to consider myself as a disenchanted Republican who is more likely to vote anti-Republican than pro-Democrat.
I don't know what you are bitching about. If you want welfare, you got it! The Welfare State has been on a great march upward for 45 years. That is under Democrat and Republican Presidents and Congresses. Flip a coin, vote for either side, you will get more and more of the welfare you want, both for individuals and crony capitalists.idamtnboy wrote: "The only person who matters is me," and, "If you can't make it on your own, too bad," has been a real turn off for me.
What is the result of spending more and more every year on welfare? We have more and more poor people. This great and expensive experiment is just more proof that welfare kills individual drive and self-reliance.even by the narrowest definition of welfare spending—programs aimed at fighting poverty—the figure has gone up 39 percent during the Bush presidency. There isn't any ambiguity here. The government is spending more money on welfare—and with the coming explosion in entitlements, you can expect it to spend even more in the future.

You are one confused puppy. But there is hope for you. In that scramble of thoughts I see a chance for you to develop order, logic, faith in God-given liberties and responsibilities, and faith in the individual to run his own life.idamtnboy wrote: There was a day when I pretty much voted straight R ticket. Spend two years reading libertarian thought. You can develop your own taste in authors, http://www.google.com/search?q=libertar ... 1I7SUNA_en . Or I can make some suggestions.
But for goodness sake don't run out and watch that Ayn Rand movie and think you are enlightened.

BTW, I assume you, like me, value the role of the Church in society and in our lives. You may also be disappointed at the great decline in church attendance and involvement in our country. Are you aware that one of the major factors in this decline of the church is the growth of The Welfare State?idamtnboy wrote: There was a day when I pretty much voted straight R ticket. Why? In simple terms the populace now sees the government as the great provider of help to the needy and there is a continuing abandonment of the Church's role. What a shame.
Let me also say, as a fellow Baptist, that our religion fits with libertarianism like a glove. I was even able to find a compatible church when I moved out here to this hotbed of liberalism, atheism, agnosticism, and spiritualism (modern day Gnosticism).
